{"id":288448,"date":"2026-01-17T01:12:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-17T01:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/288448\/"},"modified":"2026-01-17T01:12:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-17T01:12:14","slug":"kildare-company-fined-e225000-after-death-of-employee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/288448\/","title":{"rendered":"Kildare company fined \u20ac225,000 after death of employee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Kildare company has been fined \u20ac225,000 following the death of a worker more than five and a half years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Kildare Chilling Company pleaded guilty to three charges of breaching safety, health and welfare legislation.<\/p>\n<p>On the morning of 14 May 2020, at the firm&#8217;s premises on Curragh Road in Kildare town, Binak Cokaj suffered fatal head injuries after the lid of a vacuum packing machine closed on him.<\/p>\n<p>He was working as a packer at the time.<\/p>\n<p>At Kildare Circuit Court, sitting in Naas, Judge Elva Duffy imposed the fine of \u20ac225,000.<\/p>\n<p>The case was taken by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the outcome, HSA Chief Executive Mark Cullen said: &#8220;A worker tragically lost his life in circumstances that should never occur in any workplace.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Employers have a clear legal duty to ensure that machinery is properly maintained, inspected and kept in a safe condition at all times.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Failure to do so exposes workers to unacceptable risks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today&#8217;s outcome highlights the serious consequences when these responsibilities are not met.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It is the second time that Kildare Chilling Company has been taken to court in relation to a workplace fatality.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2022, the company was fined \u20ac400,000 at Naas Circuit Court following the death of an employee who was struck and crushed by a mobile forklift truck on 15 February 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Kildare company has been fined \u20ac225,000 following the death of a worker more than five and a&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":288449,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[40],"tags":[9,10,18,13,14,6,19,17,11,12,15,16,5,7,8],"class_list":{"0":"post-288448","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-ireland","8":"tag-breaking-news","9":"tag-breakingnews","10":"tag-eire","11":"tag-featured-news","12":"tag-featurednews","13":"tag-headlines","14":"tag-ie","15":"tag-ireland","16":"tag-latest-news","17":"tag-latestnews","18":"tag-main-news","19":"tag-mainnews","20":"tag-news","21":"tag-top-stories","22":"tag-topstories"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@ie\/115907785066884481","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/288448","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=288448"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/288448\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/288449"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=288448"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=288448"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=288448"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
