target=\"_blank\">Marc Guehi<\/a>, who is close to joining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/football\/man-city\/\" title=\"Manchester City\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Manchester City<\/a>, in the January transfer window.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Citizens have been one of the several clubs credited with an interest in Guehi, but they accelerated their efforts to sign him this month following a defensive crisis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pep Guardiola&#8217;s side are without Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones due to injuries, and as a result, they have decided to move for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/football\/crystal-palace\/\" title=\"Crystal Palace\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Crystal Palace<\/a> defender now rather than wait until next summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Guehi has a contract at Selhurst Park until the end of the season, and Palace have agreed to cash in on him after City made a tempting offer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It has been reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/football\/man-city\/transfer-talk\/news\/guehi-to-man-city-medical-transfer-fee-contract-details-revealed-ahead-of-imminent-january-move_590027.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Man City have\u00a0agreed a deal in principle<\/strong><\/a> with the Eagles to sign the 25-year-old for a cut-price \u00a320m, plus add-ons that could take the total package towards \u00a330m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Why Liverpool did not move for Marc Guehi\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Reds were close to signing Guehi last summer, and they had an initial \u00a335m deal agreed on deadline day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The move collapsed in the eleventh hour after Palace failed to sign a replacement, but Liverpool have remained keen on the defender.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 2024-25 Premier League champions were willing to put together an offer in the summer for the England international, when he was expected to attract a host of suitors, including Bayern Munich.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to a report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/sport\/football\/transfer-news\/liverpool-transfer-stance-explained-marc-33247144\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool Echo<\/a>, the Reds do not consider signing Guehi this month as a market opportunity, compared to last September or next summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Liverpool are unlikely to change their stance by submitting a fresh offer to hijack City&#8217;s move.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Have Liverpool made the right decision?\u00a0<br \/>\n<img worth around \u00a3300,000 per week.<\/p>\n<p>If finances were to be considered, Liverpool would probably never have offered him that package.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Liverpool have taken a big risk by not signing a new defender this month and by keeping faith in Joe Gomez, who has struggled to stay fit in recent years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/people\/giovanni-leoni\/\" title=\"Giovanni Leoni\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Giovanni Leoni<\/a> out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/people\/ibrahima-konate\/\" title=\"Ibrahima Konate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ibrahima Konate<\/a> likely to leave for free
