Warning: your TBR pile is about to get a lot longer.<\/p>\n<p>Author Richard Osman\u2019s favorite books are a mixed bag of genres \u2014 and includes the most famous mystery novel of all time.<\/p>\n<p>As a British crime writer, Osman jokes to Page Six that he\u2019s \u201clegally obligated\u201d to include Agatha Christie in his recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>Osman\u2019s own mystery, <a data-aps-asc-tag=\"pagesix-20\" data-aps-asin=\"1984880985\" data-wrapped-template=\"https:\/\/r.pagesixlink.com?btn_ref=org-282f0dd399864b44&amp;btn_url\" href=\"https:\/\/r.pagesixlink.com?btn_ref=org-282f0dd399864b44&amp;btn_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FThursday-Murder-Club-Novel-Mystery%2Fdp%2F1984880985%3Ftag%3Dpagesix-20%26asc_refurl%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fpagesix.com%2F2025%2F08%2F28%2Fstyle%2Fthe-thursday-murder-club-author-richard-osman-shares-his-six-favorite-books%2F%26asc_source%3Dweb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">\u201cThe Thursday Murder Club,\u201d<\/a> premieres on Netflix Thursday and says he\u2019s \u201cimmensely proud\u201d of the series and the movie adaption. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"8488127\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/110119920.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;The Thursday Murder Club&quot; by Richard Osman\" class=\"wp-image-8488127\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Thursday Murder Club,\u201d which <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/video\/the-thursday-murder-club-premiere-helen-mirren-pierce-brosnan-and-more-stars\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan<\/a>, follows four retirees who solve mysteries in their retirement community. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy favorite ever Page-Turners was when Kelsey Grammer <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/05\/15\/style\/kelsey-grammer-shares-his-six-favorite-books\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chose both The Bible, and his own book<\/a>,\u201d Osman \u2014 whose fifth \u201cThursday Murder Club\u201d book, <a data-aps-asc-tag=\"pagesix-20\" data-aps-asin=\"0593653254\" data-wrapped-template=\"https:\/\/r.pagesixlink.com?btn_ref=org-282f0dd399864b44&amp;btn_url\" href=\"https:\/\/r.pagesixlink.com?btn_ref=org-282f0dd399864b44&amp;btn_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FImpossible-Fortune-Thursday-Murder-Mystery%2Fdp%2F0593653254%3Ftag%3Dpagesix-20%26asc_refurl%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fpagesix.com%2F2025%2F08%2F28%2Fstyle%2Fthe-thursday-murder-club-author-richard-osman-shares-his-six-favorite-books%2F%26asc_source%3Dweb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">\u201cThe Impossible Fortune,\u201d<\/a> comes out Sept. 30 \u2014 quips.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the sort of high-wire stunt you can get away with if you\u2019ve had Kelsey Grammer\u2019s career, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019d be able to pull it off, so I shall just point you gently in the direction of \u2018The Thursday Murder Club\u2019 which, if you like your murder with humor, warmth and great characters, I think you\u2019ll enjoy,\u201d  the <a data-aps-asc-tag=\"pagesix-20\" data-aps-asin=\"059365322X\" data-wrapped-template=\"https:\/\/r.pagesixlink.com?btn_ref=org-282f0dd399864b44&amp;btn_url\" href=\"https:\/\/r.pagesixlink.com?btn_ref=org-282f0dd399864b44&amp;btn_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FWe-Solve-Murders-Richard-Osman%2Fdp%2F059365322X%3Ftag%3Dpagesix-20%26asc_refurl%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fpagesix.com%2F2025%2F08%2F28%2Fstyle%2Fthe-thursday-murder-club-author-richard-osman-shares-his-six-favorite-books%2F%26asc_source%3Dweb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">\u201cWe Solve Murders\u201d<\/a> author adds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bible I\u2019m guessing you know already. Carr\" class=\"wp-image-8488123\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA beautiful, and very short (who doesn\u2019t love a short book?) novel about a summer in an English village shortly after the end of the First World War. A book suffused with sunshine and sadness, and the hazy shades of memory. I recommend it to everyone, and nobody has yet complained.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"8488128\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/110119918.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;And Then There Were None&quot; by Agatha Christie\" class=\"wp-image-8488128\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a British crime writer I am legally obliged to include an Agatha Christie on this list. To me crime fiction lives and dies on characters rather than plot. \u2018What happens?\u2019 is less important than \u2018Why do I care what happens?\u2019 That said, this novel has probably the cleverest plot twist in crime fiction history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"8488125\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/110119916.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;Life After Life&quot; by Kate Atkinson\" class=\"wp-image-8488125\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA single life story loops over and again punctuated by two world wars. The finest book by Britain\u2019s finest living novelist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"8488124\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/110119917.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;The Dutch House&quot; by Ann Patchett\" class=\"wp-image-8488124\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t only choose British writers, that would be impolite. If you have never read any Ann Patchett then I envy you the pleasures ahead. I\u2019ll pick \u2018The Dutch House,\u2019 another sprawling family saga, because that\u2019s where I started, but then, as I did, you can work your way backwards through her incredible career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"8488130\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/110119914.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;The Dirtiest Race in History&quot; by Richard Moore\" class=\"wp-image-8488130\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love a sports book, and there were many I could have chosen, but this in-depth look at the Men\u2019s 100m final at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, a steroid-fueled bonanza is a true story told like a thriller.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"8488129\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/110119919.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;A Time to Kill&quot; by John Grisham\" class=\"wp-image-8488129\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel that my only real job as an author is to entertain. To hook readers on page one and to keep them laughing, crying, thinking or guessing for the next 400 pages.
