{"id":291993,"date":"2026-01-19T08:28:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T08:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/291993\/"},"modified":"2026-01-19T08:28:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T08:28:14","slug":"criminal-accused-of-illegally-parking-car-whilst-he-was-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/291993\/","title":{"rendered":"Criminal accused of illegally parking car whilst he was in prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The man was given a reprieve from his cell and brought before Limerick District Court to explain to Judge Patricia Harney why a Volkswagen car registered in his name was parked illegally on a footpath in the Oaks, Newcastle, Limerick<\/p>\n<p>A CRIMINAL was formally charged with parking a car in an \u201cillegal fashion\u201d while he was serving time in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Quinlivan, 35, is currently residing in Limerick Prison following a conviction for city burglaries in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick<\/a> Circuit Court.<\/p>\n<p>The man was given a reprieve from his cell and brought before Limerick District Court to explain to Judge Patricia Harney why a Volkswagen car registered in his name was parked illegally on a footpath in the Oaks, Newcastle, Limerick.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Quinlivan, giving evidence, said he \u201cwas probably in prison\u201d at the time of the offence on June 15, 2025, and that it was therefore impossible for him to have committed the crime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/1990893\/limerick-man-in-on-and-off-again-relationship-deemed-to-be-a-danger-to-future-women.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick man in &#8216;on-and-off again&#8217; relationship deemed to be \u2018a danger to future women\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The judge, seeking clarification, asked the man whether he was in prison or not on June 15.<\/p>\n<p>Following some prompting from his solicitor, John Herbert, Mr Quinlivan remembered that he was indeed in prison on the date of the crime.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Patricia Harney replied \u201cI imagine it\u2019s hard to keep up with dates with your history\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The man also declared that he had never owned a Volkswagen, and detailed that he had no idea who would register a car in his name.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Quinlivian has over 112 previous convictions.
