The\u00a0February 27, 2026<\/strong>\u00a0theatrical release of the slasher sequel\u00a0Scream 7\u00a0is swiftly approaching, and today a poster has dropped online that pays tribute to the 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (or, if you go by the title that\u2019s on the screen and the copyright, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre)! This tribute comes about because images from the set of Scream 7 have revealed that a theatre in the movie is showing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, with the title proudly displayed on their marquee. Troubled History<\/p>\n

Spyglass Media and Paramount once intended to make a\u00a0Scream 7\u00a0that would have starred\u00a0Scream\u00a0(2022) and\u00a0Scream VI\u00a0leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with\u00a0Freaky\u00a0and\u00a0Happy Death Day\u00a0director Christopher Landon at the helm. But then Ortega allegedly asked for a\u00a0substantial pay raise<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of\u00a0Scream VI\u00a0due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don\u2019t tend to work out. Then Barrera was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn\u2019t go over well with executives at Spyglass.\u00a0Landon dropped out the of the project soon after. So\u00a0Scream 7\u00a0has been re-developed,\u00a0Campbell has signed on to return as franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, back in the lead role, while Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original\u00a0Scream, directs the film from a screenplay by 2022\u2019s\u00a0Scream\u00a0and\u00a0Scream VI\u00a0writer Guy Busick, who crafted the story with his co-writer on the fifth and sixth films, James Vanderbilt. (Vanderbilt is also a producer on the most recent sequels.)\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cast and Synopsis<\/p>\n

Neve Campbell<\/a>\u00a0is joined in the cast by Isabel May of the\u00a0Yellowstone\u00a0prequel\u00a01883, who\u00a0has signed on to play Sidney\u2019s daughter; Mckenna Grace of the\u00a0Ghostbusters\u00a0franchise, Grace\u2019s\u00a0Ghostbusters\u00a0co-star Celeste O\u2019Connor,\u00a0Gen V\u2018s Asa Germann,\u00a0The Fabelmans\u2018 Sam Rechner,\u00a0Pitch Perfect\u2018s Anna Camp,\u00a0Riverdale\u2018s Mark Consuelos, fellow franchise star Courteney Cox, who reprises the role of reporter \/ author Gale Weathers, Joel McHale (Community) as Sidney\u2019s husband Mark Evans, and Ethan Embray (The Devil\u2019s Candy). Although two of the \u201ccore four\u201d characters established in the previous two movies are no longer around, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are back as Chad Meeks-Martin and Mindy Meeks-Martin.<\/p>\n

Also in the cast are Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, who played Ghostface killers in the original\u00a0Scream\u00a0and\u00a0Scream 3, respectively, and did not appear to make it out of those movies alive. David Arquette is back as the dearly departed Dewey, who exited the world of the living in the fifth movie.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the film\u2019s official synopsis:\u00a0When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.<\/p>\n
