The Northern lights that lit up the night skies in Waterford last night was the strongest concentration of the phenomenon seen in years.<\/p>\n
That’s according to a former physicist with the European Space agency.<\/p>\n
Dr. Brian O Halloran said Ireland was in the perfect location to see the Northern lights last night.<\/p>\n
He said that the lights seen in Waterford were some of the strongest seen in years, as a result of an eruption in the sun.<\/p>\n
“I’ve seen aurora numerous times over the last 30 years and last night was the strongest display visually that we’ve seen since at least 2003.”<\/p>\n
He went on to say that rural Waterford would have had the best view possible to the northern lights.<\/p>\n
“We had the perfect view here in Waterford last night, we were incredibly lucky in areas like Boatstrand and other rural areas, with the strongest concentration at around 9pm”<\/p>\n
He continued by saying that the people of Waterford may witness more Northern lights tonight but the wont be nearly as strong or visible.<\/p>\n
