The trio\u2019s friendship began in late 2022 after they connected at the Academy Museum Gala in October of that year. From there, they quickly became a fixture in each other\u2019s lives \u2014 vacationing together, spending holidays as a group and even getting matching tattoos. In January 2023, Selena leaned into the dynamic, captioning an Instagram post, \u201cFine call us [sic] us a throuple #foreverplusone.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, fans started to notice the distance when Selena was absent from Brooklyn and Nicola\u2019s vow renewal in August, and when the couple didn\u2019t attend Selena\u2019s own recent, star-studded wedding. But there was no dramatic fallout behind the shift, a source told People<\/a> in November 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no bad blood,\u201d the insider said, pushing back on claims that Selena felt \u201cbetrayed\u201d or was cut off. \u201cRelationships evolve, and it\u2019s true they\u2019re not as close as they once were, but there wasn\u2019t any one thing that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

The insider confirmed the missed events weren\u2019t due to tension. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing but love and well wishes from them for Selena and Benny [Blanco]<\/strong>,\u201d the source said, adding that scheduling and shifting priorities played a role.<\/p>\n

While Selena has kept her focus on her personal life and career, Nicola and Brooklyn have been navigating far more complicated family dynamics \u2014 particularly with Brooklyn\u2019s famous parents, David<\/strong> and Victoria Beckham<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That tension came to a head in January 2026, when Brooklyn released a lengthy and deeply personal statement accusing his parents of years of interference and emotional distress. In the post, Brooklyn claimed Victoria disrupted his April 2022 wedding to Nicola, alleging she \u201ccancelled making Nicola\u2019s dress\u201d and \u201chijacked\u201d their first dance.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe danced very inappropriately on me in front of everybody. I\u2019ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life,\u201d Brooklyn wrote.<\/p>\n

Nicola ultimately wore a custom Valentino gown, which her stylist Leslie Fremar<\/strong> said had been planned well in advance. \u201cIt was the ultimate couture experience,\u201d Fremar told Vogue, noting multiple trips to Valentino\u2019s Rome headquarters and U.S. fittings.<\/p>\n

Nicola later addressed the dress controversy herself. \u201cShe didn\u2019t say you can\u2019t wear it; I didn\u2019t say I didn\u2019t want to wear it,\u201d she told Variety<\/a>, explaining that Victoria\u2019s studio simply couldn\u2019t make the dress in time.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Brooklyn and Nicola quietly renewed their vows in Florida with fewer than 20 guests \u2014 notably without any members of the Beckham family in attendance. \u201cWe wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment,\u201d Brooklyn wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

Fueling the controversy further, wedding guest Stavros Agapiou<\/strong> later backed up Brooklyn\u2019s account of the first dance, writing in a now-deleted Instagram comment, \u201cI was there and she did, he\u2019s telling the truth,\u201d before adding, \u201cGood on him for finally speaking out!\u201d<\/p>\n
