Sharad Kelkar, whose latest web series Taskaree: The Smuggler\u2019s Web is currently trending at the top on Netflix, has revealed that his character in the crime thriller takes inspiration from Amitabh Bachchan\u2019s iconic Angry Young Man roles from the 1980s.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the influence, Kelkar acknowledged Bachchan\u2019s lasting impact on him during his formative years. \u201cWho hasn\u2019t been a fan of Mr. Bachchan? He\u2019s a phenomenal actor. Though not as an adult, he had a huge influence on me as a child. I even used to style my hair like him,\u201d the actor shared, adding that the reference goes beyond surface-level swagger.<\/p>\n

Elaborating on how the inspiration is woven into the narrative, Kelkar explained that his character\u2019s backstory is set in the same decade that defined Bachchan\u2019s Angry Young Man phase. \u201cMy character is a fan of his. There\u2019s a moment where he goes for a haircut, and Bachchan\u2019s photograph is placed in front of him, prompting that particular hairstyle. That swag is just a small part of the larger story,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In Taskaree: The Smuggler\u2019s Web, Kelkar essays the role of Bada Chaudhary, a powerful smuggling kingpin. Reflecting on the character, he noted that the role pushed him into unfamiliar territory. \u201cIt forced me to explore a darker psychology, and I\u2019m glad I took that risk,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Created by Neeraj Pandey, the series features a tense face-off between crime networks and customs authorities, with Emraan Hashmi and Sharad Kelkar leading the cast. Taskaree: The Smuggler\u2019s Web is currently streaming on Netflix.<\/p>\n
