No shortage of drama, no shortage of shock. Heartbreak for Courcey Rovers, elation for Ballinora. This SE Systems Senior Camogie Championship game went right down to the wire at Ballyanley on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Courceys had one hand on the win. In the 59th minute, Saoirse McCarthy\u2019s 45 restored the three-point cushion they\u2019d enjoyed at half-time. It felt safe. It wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

In the 61st minute, Kate Dooley sent Jennifer Murphy through, and she was hauled down by McCarthy. McCarthy was booked for the challenge while Aishling O\u2019Reilly received her marching orders for the initial foul on Dooley. Rachel Murphy pointed the free \u2013 two the margin now \u2013 the balance tilting.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Reilly\u2019s dismissal was a hammer blow. Ballinora sensed it. Twice M\u00e9abh Murphy picked out Dooley, twice she clipped over. The second, in the 66th minute, brought the sides level for only the second time all night.<\/p>\n

Then came the sucker punch. From the puckout, Courceys coughed up possession. Rose Murphy was hauled down by Grainne Hannon. Free blown initially, penalty awarded in the end.<\/p>\n

Rachel Murphy only had to do what was necessary, and popped it over in the 69th minute.<\/p>\n

Ballinora were in front \u2013 for the first time since the 19th minute \u2013 and crucially, at the only time that mattered.<\/p>\n

Having led by three at the break, Courceys only managed five second half scores. All five came from McCarthy. They will feel aggrieved with certain calls, but more than that, they will feel empty at how close they were to redemption after the opening-round loss to Glen Rovers.<\/p>\n

McCarthy was outstanding, her distribution exquisite, her seven points the backbone of the Rovers tally. Katie Crowley saved brilliantly in goal, Orlagh O\u2019Mahony swept up everything in front of her, and O\u2019Reilly was a pillar until her sending-off.<\/p>\n

The story of the game, though, was Ballinora\u2019s refusal to wilt. They had struck early \u2013 Rachel Murphy\u2019s goal inside 30 seconds \u2013 but were reined in almost immediately as Courceys reeled off 1-2, Fiona Keating finishing McCarthy\u2019s inch-perfect pass to the net after two white flags from Ciara O\u2019Donoghue.<\/p>\n

By the 20th minute, Courceys had their second goal, Aine O\u2019Donoghue this time the finisher, and the gap was three again. Ballinora, who had briefly led midway through the half after a run of four points, were kept on the back foot from there.<\/p>\n

They would not taste the lead again until the 69th minute. But when it came, they held it.<\/p>\n

Rachel Murphy finished with 1-9, Judy Murphy stood out in defence, Dooley clipped four, and Ballinora had their win \u2013 taken from a contest that seemed beyond them.<\/p>\n
