Casemiro’s impending exit from Manchester United<\/a> will shave \u00a315.6million from their wage bill. The Red Devils announced the former Real Madrid<\/a> midfielder will walk away from Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign.<\/a><\/p>\n

His contract expires at the end of June, meaning he will depart as a free agent. He has been one of the highest earners at the club<\/a> since his shock arrival from Los Blancos in Erik ten Hag’s first campaign<\/a> as United boss.<\/p>\n

But there is also a reason why United have announced the 33-year-old’s exit now instead of waiting for the season to come to its climax.<\/p>\n

According to the Manchester Evening News<\/a>, Casemiro wanted the news to be released now to ensure there was no inaccurate speculation about his future which may hamper negotiations with potential suitors. It’s understood he was earning more than \u00a3300,000 per week at United.<\/p>\n

Casemiro’s exit means the next United manager will have an extra \u00a315.6m per year to work with on their wage bill. However, it’s also understood Casemiro would have been in line for another \u00a32.6m if the Reds qualified for the Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Making the announcement now guarantees the club will not have to pay Casemiro this bonus. It may also comes as a relief to interim manager Michael Carrick, as it means his goal of Champions League qualification will not bring any financial cost to the club, if he is able to achieve it.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian played a huge role in Carrick’s first match of his second spell as temporary manager. Playing alongside Kobbie Mainoo<\/a> and Bruno Fernandes<\/a> in midfield, Casemiro was outstanding in the 2-0 victory over Manchester City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His future at Old Trafford has been finite ever since Sir Jim Ratcliffe came in with the aim of signing younger players and cutting the salary bill down. However, it was a performance which suggested Casemiro is still a huge asset.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, there was a clause in his contract suggesting a one-year extension would be triggered if he started 35 matches this season. He would have to start every match from now until the end of the campaign for this clause to be triggered.<\/p>\n

If there was any slight possibility of this happening, it was essentially ended by the announcement from the club. In his own message to United fans, many of which have been divided by the South American’s contributions, he said: \u201cI will carry Manchester United<\/a> with me throughout my entire life.<\/p>\n
