{"id":299640,"date":"2026-01-23T15:11:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T15:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/299640\/"},"modified":"2026-01-23T15:11:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T15:11:10","slug":"heifort-is-a-house-for-life-by-felt-in-belgium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/299640\/","title":{"rendered":"Heifort is a &#8220;house for life&#8221; by Felt in Belgium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Belgian architecture studio Felt has completed Heifort, an accessible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/houses\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">home<\/a> for a retired couple in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/ghent\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ghent<\/a> that is topped by a large copper-clad roof.<\/p>\n<p>The 130-square-metre home in Ghent&#8217;s suburbs was designed for a couple with the goal of &#8220;ageing-in-place&#8221;, which informed its accessible, level-access and single-storey design.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2289610 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/felt-heifort-house-belgium_dezeen_2364_col_11-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior view of Heifort home\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Felt has completed an accessible home for a retired couple in Ghent<\/p>\n<p>Housed within a barn-like volume, Heifort has tall, open living spaces divided by exposed cross-laminated timber (CLT) walls.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The starting point was the idea of a house for life, a home that is calm, readable, and generous, yet able to adapt as its inhabitants age,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/felt.works\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Felt<\/a> told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2289601 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/felt-heifort-house-belgium_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Copper-clad roof of Belgian house by Felt\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"  \/>A copper-clad roof tops the single-storey home<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Living rooms and bedrooms are interwoven with more compact, supportive zones,&#8221; the studio added. &#8220;This rhythm gives the house a natural logic that is easy to understand and comfortable to use, now and in the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The project is about precision rather than excess. Every decision was tested against daily use, long-term comfort, and spatial calm,&#8221; it continued.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2289607 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/felt-heifort-house-belgium_dezeen_2364_col_8-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Interior view of Heifort by Felt\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The living spaces are divided by walls of cross-laminated timber<\/p>\n<p>Large portals without doors connect the home&#8217;s kitchen, dining and living areas, with white-painted ceilings above revealing the full roof ridge.<\/p>\n<p>Above, the timber partition walls have been punctured by circular openings that align with porthole-like windows in the home&#8217;s gable ends, which pull natural light into the interiors in tandem with areas of glass brickwork.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2289605 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/felt-heifort-house-belgium_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x682.jpg\" alt=\"Kitchen interior at Heifort\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1891\"  \/>Partition walls have been punctured by circular openings<\/p>\n<p>The interior of Heifort&#8217;s reveal the CLT structure, which Felt described as giving the home a &#8220;self-evident construction logic&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The repeated CLT portal frames are the backbone of the project. Although nearly identical, they create a surprising longitudinal view through a series of rounded openings,&#8221; said the studio.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/01\/12\/felt-daniel-bungalow-ghent\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/felt-daniel-bungalow-ghent-sq_dezeen_2364_col_0-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Dani\u00ebl by FELT\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Felt updates mid-century bungalow in Ghent with blue-tiled tower\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The transverse CLT walls remain visible in their natural spruce texture, while ceilings and exterior walls are finished in white.
