{"id":2998,"date":"2025-08-16T17:43:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T17:43:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/2998\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T17:43:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T17:43:14","slug":"overgrown-cork-city-gardens-made-safe-for-elderly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/2998\/","title":{"rendered":"Overgrown Cork city gardens made safe for elderly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">Gas Networks Ireland employees took part in a gardening blitz alongside representatives from their charity partner, Age Action Ireland, to help elderly communities in Cork city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">More than 60 employees volunteered their time and energy to transform overgrown gardens in Turner\u2019s Cross, Blackrock, and Farranree in to safe, accessible, and welcoming outdoor spaces, as part of the company\u2019s commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Marie Lyster, customer experience manager at Gas Networks Ireland, said the initiative wasn\u2019t just about \u201ctrimming hedges or cutting grass\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cIt\u2019s about connection, giving back, and community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\n            \u201cMany of the people we are helping through Age Action Ireland have lived in their home for decades, but find managing the garden upkeep challenging, so we are proud to support them in a practical, hands-on way.\u201d\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Age Action Ireland has been Gas Networks Ireland\u2019s charity partner for a number of years, donating more than \u20ac75k through its Customer Satisfaction Monitoring Programme since 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Last year, a dedicated Age Friendly helpline (1800 628 427) was launched by Gas Networks Ireland in conjunction with Age Action Ireland and Fexco.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Staff on this line received specialist training to provide respectful and compassionate support to customers aged 66 and over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Age Action Ireland\u2019s head of fundraising and communications, Carrie Benn, said the charity recognises the vital role the continued collaboration is playing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cWe deeply value our ongoing partnership with Gas Networks Ireland, whose support has significantly enhanced our ability to deliver vital services to older people across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cTheir continued commitment not only strengthens our capacity to respond to real needs on the ground, but also reflects a shared vision for building more inclusive, supportive communities.
