Last year,\u00a0Deadline<\/a>\u00a0broke the news that Oscar-winning\u00a0Juno\u00a0writer Diablo Cody, who has also written the genre films\u00a0Jennifer\u2019s Body<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Lisa Frankenstein<\/a>, would be producing\u00a0Forbidden Fruits, which marks the feature directorial debut of Meredith Alloway and is an adaptation of the Lily Houghton\u00a0stage play\u00a0Of the Women Came the Beginning of Sin, and Through Her We All Die.\u00a0The film has secured a U.S. and Canadian distribution deal with Independent Film Company and the Shudder streaming service, and IFC is planning a\u00a02026<\/strong>\u00a0theatrical release. Cast and Synopsis<\/p>\n

Lili Reinhart\u00a0(Hustlers),\u00a0Lola Tung\u00a0(The Summer I Turned Pretty),\u00a0Victoria Pedretti\u00a0(You),\u00a0Alexandra Shipp\u00a0(Barbie) and newcomer Emma Chamberlain star in the film, which has the following synopsis: <\/p>\n

In\u00a0Forbidden Fruits,\u00a0Free Eden employee Apple secretly runs a witchy femme cult in the basement of the mall store after hours \u2013 with fellow fruits Cherry and Fig. But when new hire Pumpkin challenges their performative sisterhood, the women are forced to face their own poisons or succumb to a bloody fate.\u00a0Alloway wrote the screenplay with Houghton.<\/p>\n

Producers and Distribution<\/p>\n

Diablo Cody is producing\u00a0Forbidden Fruits\u00a0with Mason Novick, Trent Hubbard, and Mary Anne Waterhouse. Charlie Traisman and Katherine Romans of Madhouse Films and Casey Durant and Rachel Douglas of Range serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n
