{"id":303252,"date":"2026-01-25T18:09:24","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T18:09:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/303252\/"},"modified":"2026-01-25T18:09:24","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T18:09:24","slug":"woman-claims-e98000-found-in-luggage-at-dublin-airport-is-inheritance-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/303252\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman claims \u20ac98,000 found in luggage at Dublin Airport is inheritance \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A Spanish woman, who claimed that almost \u20ac98,000 in her luggage at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-airport\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-airport\/\">Dublin Airport<\/a> was a six-year-old inheritance, was denied bail on money laundering charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Rawan Hassan (41), a mother of two from \u00c1guilas in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/spain\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/spain\/\">Spain<\/a>, was arrested on Friday and appeared before Judge Paula Murphy at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/dublin\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a> District Court on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She faced strenuous objections to bail from Garda Grainne Raggett, who cited flight risk concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ms Hassan listened to the proceedings with the aid of an interpreter. Garda Raggett told the court the woman had \u20ac97,850 in her baggage when she was stopped at Terminal 2 in Dublin Airport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The court heard the woman claimed it was an inheritance she had received six years ago. Judge Murphy heard Ms Hassan told garda\u00ed she was in Dublin for just one day of sightseeing and was about to head to Turkey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She is charged with an offence under section 7 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act of 2010 for attempting to remove proceeds of crime from the State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda Raggett stressed the accused had no ties to Ireland or any address in the State.
