EastEnders star Alice Haig has spoken about the future of her on-screen family’s dark storyline.<\/p>\n

The BBC soap<\/a> is currently exploring the issue of radicalised misogyny<\/a> in a big plot for teenage character Joel Marshall, who has been pushing his loved ones to breaking point with his behaviour.<\/p>\n

Alice’s character Vicki Fowler has struggled to get through to Joel, who’s the son of her partner Ross. She’s also frustrated that Ross keeps making excuses for him and covering up his criminal acts.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to us at a photoshoot<\/a> for the Inside Soap Awards 2025<\/a>, Alice revealed what fans can expect from the next chapters in the story.<\/p>\n

“Obviously I can’t give away any details, but safe to say it is dark. It does get darker and there’s a lot of drama ahead,” she explained.<\/p>\n

“A lot of important topics are being discussed and explored. I know it’s a hard watch, but stick in there because it’s worthwhile and it’s a story we need to tell.”<\/p>\n

Asked about taking over the role of Vicki this year<\/a>, she continued: “I didn’t know I was going to be playing her until very near when we started, because it’s all very, very secret. When I found out, I was like: ‘Oh my God, this is amazing!’ I couldn’t believe it.<\/p>\n

“It’s just been brilliant. She’s so much fun to play. Every time you think you’ve got a handle on who she is, she does something surprising, which is great for an actor.”<\/p>\n

Alice took part in the photoshoot as she’s nominated for Best Newcomer at the Inside Soap Awards this year.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on her nomination, Alice added: “It’s totally surreal! I’m really delighted, flattered and excited. The quality of the other people \u2013 in all the categories, actually \u2013 is unbelievable. The acting in soaps at the moment is second to none. I’m really chuffed to be there, to be honest \u2013 it’s great!”<\/p>\n

Asked why EastEnders deserves support in the Best Soap category, she replied: “We’re having such a good year. The 40th anniversary, the quality of the writing, the hair, the make-up, the costume. Everybody is just incredible.<\/p>\n

“It really deserves all the praise it’s getting at the moment and we want to keep it going \u2013 there’s a real buzz about the place.”<\/p>\n
