“Twilight” actress Kristen Stewart<\/a><\/strong> has revealed plans to relocate out of the United States<\/a>, claiming that her career in her home nation is being impeded by President Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a>, who she says has made it “impossible” to “freely” make movies stateside.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles native Stewart, 35, who shot to fame at the age of 12 while starring alongside Jodie Foster<\/a> <\/strong>in the hit thriller “Panic Room,” opened up about her desire to relocate to Europe during a candid interview with British outlet The Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The actress explained that she hopes to grow her directorial career, having taken her first major step behind the camera while directing and producing the 2025 movie “The Chronology of Water,” which was filmed in Latvia.<\/p>\n

Stewart pointed to Trump as the reason for the film’s location, claiming that the project, which stars Imogen Poots <\/strong>and Thora Birch<\/strong>, “would have been impossible to do in the United States.”<\/p>\n

The actress then took aim at Trump’s proposed tariffs<\/a> on films made outside of the U.S., describing them as “terrifying” for the film industry as a whole.<\/p>\n

“Reality is breaking completely under Trump, but we should take a page out of his book and create the reality we want to live in,” she said.<\/p>\n

Stewart, who splits her time between Los Angeles<\/a> and New York<\/a>, confessed she’s “probably not” going to stay in America.<\/p>\n

“I can\u2019t work freely there, but I don\u2019t want to give up completely. I\u2019d like to make movies in Europe and then shove them down the throat of the American people,” she added.<\/p>\n

Trump proposed a 100% tariff on movies made outside of the states in September.<\/p>\n

“Our\u00a0movie-making business\u00a0has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing \u2018candy from a baby,\u2019” Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time.\u00a0“California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit!<\/p>\n

“Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never-ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States.<\/p>\n

“Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”<\/p>\n

California Gov. Gavin Newsom<\/strong>‘s press office replied with a\u00a0statement shared to X<\/a>: “The Governor tried to explain this to Trump months ago\u2014when this was initially proposed\u2014that his actions will cause irreparable damage to the U.S. film industry. Today\u2019s move is 100% stupid.”<\/p>\n

Should she choose to move abroad, Stewart would join a growing list of celebrities who have quit the U.S. since Trump was reelected in November 2024.<\/p>\n

Ellen DeGeneres <\/strong>and Portia de Rossi<\/strong><\/a>, Eva Longoria<\/a><\/strong>, Rosie O’Donnell<\/a><\/strong>, and Richard Gere<\/a> <\/strong>are all among the many stars who have left America in favor of relocating overseas in the wake of Trump’s win over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 2024, Stewart told Porter Magazine<\/a>\u00a0that she was going to shoot her film in Latvia after facing many obstacles getting it made in the U.S.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a fledgling film culture there. Look, I\u2019m all about the way we make movies here\u00a0[in the U.S.], but I needed a sort of radical detachment. I am not a director yet. I need to make a student film. I can\u2019t do that here,” she said.<\/p>\n

While on\u00a0SiriusXM’s\u00a0“The Howard Stern Show<\/a>” after getting engaged in 2021, Stewart revealed that she had plans to get down on one knee. However, Meyer beat her to it and proposed first.<\/p>\n
