{"id":30571,"date":"2025-08-29T11:01:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T11:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/30571\/"},"modified":"2025-08-29T11:01:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T11:01:09","slug":"natick-students-write-book-to-help-inspire-interest-in-science-boston-25-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/30571\/","title":{"rendered":"Natick students write book to help inspire interest in science \u2013 Boston 25 News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">NATICK, Mass. \u2014 A pair of seniors at Natick High School have written a children\u2019s chemistry book aimed at making science more accessible and fun for younger students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">Michael Coppellotti and Addisyn Yaskis, both 17, wrote, illustrated, and published \u201cBuilding Blocks of the World Around Us: A Kid\u2019s Guide to Chemistry.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">The book is intended for children ages 9-12 and introduces concepts like atoms, DNA, matter, and everyday chemical reactions. The 36-page book comes complete with activities that kids and parents can do together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re trying to connect to how science shows up in one\u2019s everyday life,\u201d said Michael Coppellotti.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">\u201cA lot of kids may be curious in science, but they may not really know where to start,\u201d said Addisyn Yaskis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">Coppellotti and Yaskis began writing the book in the spring and published it in July. It\u2019s available for $20 on Amazon and other sites. The students plan to donate proceeds to organizations that promote STEM equity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">Their chemistry teachers were surprised to learn about the book, but were quick to praise Coppellotti\u2019s and Yaskis\u2019 work.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/https:\/\/cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com\/cmg\/76NFCME4V5AFFBLABJVLPMPJGU.jpeg\" width=\"1440\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"ImageMetadata__MetadataParagraph-sc-1htor29-0 jibCgM image-metadata\">Back to School Natick student authors <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s awesome seeing the level to which they process this material and can explain it to an audience in really kid-friendly language,\u201d said Natick HS chemistry teacher Bill Sanford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">Dr. Nilu Chakraborty echoed her colleague\u2019s praise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m a very \u2018kitchen chemistry\u2019 kind of person,\u201d Chakraborty said. \u201cI like to do activities with my kids&#8230; So I\u2019m definitely going to cherish this [book]. I am going to use this a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 fcApnw body-paragraph\">With a year of high school left, Coppellotti and Yaskis are looking ahead to their futures. Coppellotti has plans to work in medical research, and Yaskis plans to become a doctor.
