{"id":307035,"date":"2026-01-28T00:23:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T00:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/307035\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T00:23:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T00:23:07","slug":"limerick-sporting-community-rallies-around-soccer-club-stalwart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/307035\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick sporting community rallies around soccer club stalwart"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THOUSANDS of euro has been raised in only a few days to support a local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/312\/soccer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">soccer<\/a> stalwart who is in hospital having suffered life-changing injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Michael \u2018Bomber\u2019 Sheehan, a member of southside club Hyde Rangers for more than 60 years, has been in University Hospital Limerick for more than six months having suffered a fall.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s expected to return to his home at Hilltop, St Patrick\u2019s Road in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/1998718\/woman-said-husband-s-narcissist-behaviour-forced-her-to-steal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Woman said husband&#8217;s &#8216;narcissist&#8217; behaviour forced her to steal<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, significant modifications are needed to improve access in the home and support his ongoing recovery.<\/p>\n<p>To help \u2018Bomber\u2019, the club has set up a GoFundMe page, which had fetched more than \u20ac13,000 by this Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>His neighbour Gerry McCormack, club secretary at Hyde Rangers, described \u2018Bomber\u2019 as a \u201clegend\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe played with us as a youth, at junior level. He coached teams at schoolboy and youth level and he was in charge of the junior team for years.
