The BBC’s upcoming version<\/a> of classic novel Lord of the Flies has confirmed a release date. Additionally, a first look trailer has also dropped.<\/p>\n

Based on William Golding’s “captivating” 1954 novel (via Amazon<\/a>), the new series will be the first TV adaptation of the story, which follows a group of schoolboys marooned on a desert island after a plane crash.<\/p>\n

“In an attempt to remain civil they organise themselves, led by Ralph and supported by the group\u2019s intellectual, Piggy,” the synopsis adds.<\/p>\n

“But when Jack becomes more interested in hunting and vying for leadership, he soon begins to draw other boys away from the group and, ultimately, from hope to tragedy.”<\/p>\n

The BBC has now announced that Lord of the Flies will premiere on BBC One on Sunday, 8 February at 9pm<\/strong> and follow weekly, while all four episodes will drop earlier that day on BBC iPlayer.<\/p>\n

A short trailer for the series has also been released, showcasing the talents of the many child actors who are making their professional debuts.<\/p>\n

Among them are Winston Sawyers as Ralph, David McKenna as Piggy, Lox Pratt as Jack, Ike Talbut as Simon, Thomas Connor as Roger, Noah and Cassius Flemming as twins Sam and Eric, Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice and Tom Page-Turner as Bill.<\/p>\n

Lord of the Flies comes from Adolescence’s Jack Thorne, with each episode focused on one of the perspectives of Ralph, Piggy, Simon and Jack.<\/p>\n

“I still can\u2019t believe we have been given the opportunity to film this beautiful book,” Thorne previously said of the project.<\/p>\n

“The first few days shooting show that our cast are extraordinary and that [director] Marc [Munden] is finding a whole new visual language in capturing the wonders of them and the beauty of Malaysia. He is an incredible storyteller. It is all so exciting.”<\/p>\n

Legendary composer Hans Zimmer has created the theme and additional music alongside Prehistoric Planet’s Kara Talve, while The White Lotus’ Cristobal Tapia de Veer has composed the score.<\/p>\n
