{"id":308553,"date":"2026-01-28T19:55:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T19:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/308553\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T19:55:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T19:55:08","slug":"sculpture-of-daniel-oconnell-unveiled-at-leinster-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/308553\/","title":{"rendered":"Sculpture of Daniel O&#8217;Connell unveiled at Leinster House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A sculpture of Daniel O&#8217;Connell has been unveiled at Leinster House to commemorate 250 years since his birth.<\/p>\n<p>Mr O&#8217;Connell, known as the liberator, was born in August 1775.<\/p>\n<p>He was the first Irish Catholic to speak in the British parliament and worked towards the abolition of slavery.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Daniel OConnell statue - pic - Juliette Gash - RTE\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/0023cfd4-614.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nThe statue was donated to the Houses of the Oireachtas by Bank of Ireland<\/p>\n<p>The statue, completed in 1932, was donated to the Houses of the Oireachtas by Bank of Ireland.
