Tributes have flowed following the sad death of beloved Dublin barman Noel Hawkins.<\/p>\n
Noel minded the bar at Mulligan’s on Poolbeg Street for over 40 years, and a number of regulars have paid tribute to his hospitality and his humour. Irish Daily Star columnist Roy Curtis wrote: “Dublin<\/a> – along with Mulligan’s – is a sadder place today.<\/p>\n “The city’s most joyous ambassador has fallen. For more than 40 years, Noel Hawkins dazzled as a barman, comedian, and bottomless font of good humour.<\/p>\n “I never once saw him in bad form. The beaming prince of Poolbeg Street.” Harry Byrne’s Bar in Clontarf, where Noel also worked, said: “We are heartbroken to hear the very sad news of the passing our good friend Noel Hawkins.<\/p>\n “Noel was the legendary barman of Mulligan’s Pub on Poolbeg Street. He was loved by his regulars and visitors for his warm hospitality and endless jokes.<\/p>\n “We were very lucky to work with him here in Harry’s for a while, and needless to say he left a lasting impression. He was a great Barman and a great character and a lovely man.<\/p>\n “He will be sadly missed by us and everyone who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.” And a number of others also paid tribute to Noel, with one woman sharing: “I went into Mulligan’s about three weeks ago as my Dad had told me all about the history, and told me about this man in particular, and how funny and quick witted he was.<\/p>\n “As soon as we walked in we were greeted by this warm friendly man behind the bar. ‘Well youngfella, what are ya having,” Noel said in his thick Dublin accent.<\/p>\n “We sat at the bar and he told us about the history of the place and how long he has worked there. 46 years! What an absolute legend of a man.<\/p>\n “So sad to hear this tragic news. RIP Noel. Mulligan’s will be a quiet place without you.” A second man said: “It’s devastating news. A sensational figure. woven into the fabric of Mulligans since 1977.<\/p>\n “Huge homage and remembrance and respect. Been thinking about this magical human being all day.” A third man said: “He was an absolute legend, if I went in there with a bit of weight on my shoulders I definitely didn\u2019t leave with the same weight.<\/p>\n “Noel always made you laugh. I was actually working across the road from it this morning at the Fire Station on Pearse Street, it was sad to think Noel wouldn\u2019t be behind the bar.”<\/p>\n And a fourth woman said: “Diamond. Legend. Professional. Loyal. So smart and the quickest wit always with a smile.
