Holders Paris St Germain and Real \u200bMadrid both failed to seal automatic spots in the Champions League knockout round as \u200dthey slipped out of the top eight on a frenetic final night of group-stage \u200daction across Europe on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

PSG could only draw 1-1 at home to Newcastle United – a result that left both sides facing a playoff despite starting the \u200cfinal night in the automatic places.<\/p>\n

Fifteen-time winners Real Madrid were beaten 4-2 at \u2060Jose Mourinho\u2019s Benfica, meaning they fell from third to ninth.<\/p>\n

Portugal\u2019s Sporting grabbed a last-gasp 3-2 win at Athletic Bilbao thanks to a goal by Alisson Santos to snatch a top-eight spot and effectively relegate Real Madrid to the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Manchester City beat Galatasaray \u200c2-0 to jump from \u200c11th to eighth.<\/p>\n

Arsenal, who like Bayern Munich were already assured of a top-eight finish, became the first club \u200cin the new 36-team group format to finish with a 100 per cent record, beating bottom \u2060club Kairat Almaty 3-2. Bayern finished second after a 2-1 victory at PSV Eindhoven that left the Dutch club eliminated.<\/p>\n

To show the strength of the Premier League, five English teams in the top 8, Newcastle the only one to miss out as it stands, still a few minutes left there to make it six out of six.<\/p>\n

Olympiakos score against Ajax – Hezze with it – to go back into the top 24. Marseille sneaking in, but they\u2019re 3-0 down to Brugge. It\u2019s all on goal difference. Benfica, Athletic Club, Pafos all in contention to overtake Marseille on 9 points.<\/p>\n

Rashford scores from a free-kick for Barcelona <\/b>to make it 4-1 there against Copenhagen.<\/p>\n

Superb free-kick by DiMarco gives Inter Milan<\/b> a 1-0 lead against Dortmund, which puts Inter in the top 8 ahead of PSG.<\/p>\n

Goal for Chelsea<\/b>! Napoli are going out, Conte again struggling in Europe as Joao Pedro scores from a good pass by Palmer. Inter not in the top 8 for long, Chelsea back there as it stands. 3-2.<\/p>\n

Another goal for Tottenham<\/b>, that should be them secured in the top 8 of the league table in 4th, impressive. Solanke with an excellent low finish.<\/p>\n

A cracker by Saibari against Bayern Munich for PSV<\/b>, which puts them back in qualifying places. Remarkably that knocks Benfica back out of the top 24.<\/p>\n

The table as it stands, PSG are 8th on goal difference ahead of Newcastle, who they play and are currently 1-1. Chelsea and Sporting are also on 14 points, but have worse goal difference. A goal for Inter or Juventus could knock PSG out of the automatic spots.<\/p>\n

Benfica, beating Real Madrid are currently sneaking into the top 24 in 24th, what a way to do it if it happens.<\/p>\n

Barcelona<\/b> lead 3-1 thanks to Raphinha\u2019s penalty.<\/p>\n

A fifth goal for Liverpool<\/b>, Mac Allister gets his second, and looks like it could finish any score there.<\/p>\n

Two more goals in Benfica<\/b> and Real Madrid, Schjelderup gave them a two-goal lead by Mbapp\u00e9 got his second of the night to make 3-2.<\/p>\n

What a goal! Joao Pedro smashes one into the corner for Chelsea<\/b> out of nowhere to make it 2-2.<\/p>\n

Also a goal by Barcelona as Yamal scores a deflected goal against Copenhagen. Barca move into the top 8 and Copenhagen are going out as it stands.<\/p>\n

Ridiculous goal too by Bodo-Glimt<\/b>, after a goal-line scramble for several seconds is bundled in. That would see them finish ahead of Napoli in 23rd as it stands!<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a fourth for Liverpool<\/b> and a fourth different scorer, this time it\u2019s Ekitike as they give Galatasaray a hammering.<\/p>\n

Bayern Munich<\/b> take the lead against PSV, Jamal Musiala is back from injury and scoring. Links well with wonder kid Lennart Karl, 1-0 up there. PSV going out.<\/p>\n

Olympiakos<\/b> take the lead against Ajax through Martins, lovely goal with good interplay with Taremi, that\u2019s them back in the top 24 as it stands. Pafos<\/b> are leading again, 2-1 against Slavia Prague but they\u2019re one of a host of teams, 5 of them, that are just one point short of qualifying.<\/p>\n

Goal for Barcelona<\/b>, Lewandowski with a tap-in after good play by Yamal and Olmo, they\u2019re back to 1-1 with Copenhagen.<\/p>\n

Liverpool<\/b> make it 3-0 against Copenhagen and it\u2019s Salah back on the scoresheet. That\u2019s more like it from Arne Slot\u2019s side.<\/p>\n

Goal for Tottenham<\/b> at the start of the second half, French striker Kolo Muani gets it and remarkably despite their struggles in the Premier League, Spurs are 4th in the table as it stands.<\/p>\n

Goal for Newcastle<\/b> in Paris, Joe Willock scores in stoppage time at the end of the half, despite PSG dominating. It\u2019s 1-1 there at half-time and it means Newcastle are back in the top 8 on goal difference ahead of Atletico.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Benfica<\/b> have pulled off a surprise from behind against Real Madrid, now winning 2-1 after a Pavlidis penalty. That still leaves them outside the top 24 by a point, as it gets tight.<\/p>\n

Goal for Napoli<\/b>, on loan Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund with a typical forward\u2019s goal, getting ahead of the defender and smashing in a low corner. That\u2019s 2-1 now. If it stays like that, they\u2019d stay in the competition.<\/p>\n

Chelsea drop to 12th with that, which works in favour of Atletico, who are back in the top 8.<\/p>\n

Didn\u2019t take long for Jose Mourinho\u2019s Benfica<\/b> to equalise, Schjelderup with it. Tillman scores his second to give Leverkusen a 2-0 lead over Villarreal. Sjovold scores for Bodo-Glimt<\/b> to give them the equaliser against Atletico, 1-1 there.<\/p>\n

Because of Chelsea and Atletico conceding, Tottenham are back in the top 8, despite it being 0-0 against Frankfurt. Another goal for Arsenal, Martinelli makes it 3-1.<\/p>\n

Goal for Napoli<\/b>, superb goal by Vergara, who does a swivel on the edge of the box and completely does Fofana before a low show into the corner. It\u2019s 1-1, but Napoli still outside the top 24, need another.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re under way on a busy night of the Champions League. If I had to pick a match to watch, Napoli v Chelsea is a big one, Serie A winners have to get a result or they\u2019re out. Chelsea need to win to get top 8 position.<\/p>\n

Tough start for them though as captain Di Lorenzo goes down with an injury within the first few minutes.<\/p>\n
