{"id":309688,"date":"2026-01-29T11:44:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T11:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/309688\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T11:44:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T11:44:08","slug":"inception-clueless-added-to-national-film-registry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/309688\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Inception,&#8217; &#8216;Clueless&#8217; Added to National Film Registry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tChristopher Nolan\u2019s mind-bending thriller \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/inception\/\" id=\"auto-tag_inception\" data-tag=\"inception\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Inception<\/a>,\u201d Amy Heckerling\u2019s coming-of-age comedy \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/clueless\/\" id=\"auto-tag_clueless\" data-tag=\"clueless\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clueless<\/a>\u201d and Richard Linklater\u2019s slice-of-life drama \u201cBefore Sunrise\u201d are among the 25 films selected for preservation by the <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/national-film-registry\/\" id=\"auto-tag_national-film-registry\" data-tag=\"national-film-registry\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Film Registry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOther titles deemed by the Librarian of Congress as \u201cculturally, historically or aesthetically\u201d that were made at least 10 years ago include 1989 war epic \u201cGlory,\u201d martial arts-inspired \u201cThe Karate Kid,\u201d Tom Hanks-led historical drama \u201cPhiladelphia,\u201d biopic \u201cFrida,\u201d Wes Anderson\u2019s \u201cThe Grand Budapest Hotel\u201d and Pixar\u2019s \u201cThe Incredibles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis year\u2019s selections date back to the silent film era with six films from 1896 through 1926, such as \u201cThe Tramp and the Dog\u201d and \u201cThe Lady.\u201d Additions to the Classic Hollywood category include the 1954 musical \u201cWhite Christmas\u201d as well as the romantic comedy \u201cHigh Society,\u201d featuring Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and Grace Kelly. Others that made the list were the Ken Burns documentary \u201cBrooklyn Bridge,\u201d Jim Carrey\u2019s dramedy \u201cThe Truman Show\u201d and ensemble comedy \u201cThe Big Chill,\u201d featuring\u00a0Glenn Close,\u00a0Jeff Goldblum,\u00a0William Hurt and Kevin Kline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhen we preserve films, we preserve American culture for generations to come. These selections for the National Film Registry show us that films are instrumental in capturing important parts of our nation\u2019s story,\u201d said Acting Librarian of Congress Robert R. Newlen. \u201cWe are proud to continue this important work, adding a broad range of 25 films to the National Film Registry as a collective effort in the film community to protect our cinematic heritage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis year\u2019s choices bring the number of titles in the registry to 925. Turner Classic Movies will host a television special on March 19 to screen a few of the new entrants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt is very meaningful that the National Film Registry is adding six silent film titles, showing the range of topics and styles in the earliest years of American filmmaking,\u201d says TCM host and film historian Jacqueline Stewart, who is chair of the National Film Preservation Board.  \u201cAnd it is especially exciting to see that the top title nominated by the public for this year, \u2018The Thing,\u2019 has been added to the National Film Registry, along with \u2018The Truman Show\u2019 and \u2018The Incredibles\u2019 which also had very strong public support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p
