{"id":312214,"date":"2026-01-30T21:17:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T21:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/312214\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T21:17:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T21:17:11","slug":"terrifying-experience-for-woman-grabbed-by-dog-while-walking-in-cork-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/312214\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Terrifying experience\u2019 for woman grabbed by dog while walking in Cork town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">A woman, was grabbed by a large Belgian Malinois dog while out walking endured \u201ca terrifying experience\u201d, according to a district court judge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Sergeant Trish O\u2019Sullivan told Macroom District Court the woman was walking her small dog near the hospital grounds in Macroom on March 14, 2025, at 7.30pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">A large Belgian Malinois dog, similar in appearance to a German shepherd, ran towards her and she picked up her own dog to protect it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The court was told the Belgian Malinois jumped up at the woman and \u201cgrabbed her elbow\u201d but did not cause any injury. The dog was not muzzled, was not on a leash and there was nobody with the dog.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The court was told the experience was very frightening for the woman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Defence solicitor, Jack Purcell, said his client, Joe Creedon, aged 68, of New Street, Macroom, Co Cork, was the owner of the dog.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">He said Mr Creedon was with the dog in the adjacent Commons Field and he immediately came after the dog.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The court heard the two-year-old Belgian Malinois had gone out of Mr Creedon\u2019s view momentarily and ran towards the small dog when it saw it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Mr Purcell said Mr Creedon\u2019s dog was well-trained and came back to him immediately when he whistled for it to do so.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">PLAY<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">He said the dog was not vicious and probably \u201cwanted to play\u201d with the smaller dog.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The court was told the dog was out of Mr Creedon\u2019s sight for \u201cless than a minute\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The court was told Mr Creedon was a retired school principal with no previous convictions of any kind. Mr Purcell asked Judge Joanne Carroll to consider not convicting Mr Creedon \u201cat this stage in his life\u201d given his previously unblemished record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Judge Carroll said it must have been \u201ca terrifying experience\u201d for the woman. She said the woman knew nothing about the dog which looks like a German shepherd, which is a restricted breed though the Belgian Malinois is not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">She said dog owners \u201cneed to be vigilant at all times\u201d.
