\n\tMolly Ringwald<\/a> doesn\u2019t want to see any remakes of John Hughes<\/a>\u2018 movies. <\/p>\n

\n\tDuring an interview with People magazine<\/a> at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, The Breakfast Club<\/a> actress was asked her thoughts of a potential remake of a film originally helmed by the late director. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWell, they can\u2019t be [remade] because they can\u2019t be made without the permission of [the late] John Hughes, and he didn\u2019t want the films to be remade,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t think that they should be really.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHughes died<\/a> of a heart attack at 59 in 2009. He wrote and directed a myriad of beloved \u201980s films, including Sixteen Candles<\/a> (1984); The Breakfast Club (1985); and Pretty in Pink<\/a> (1986), all of which Ringwald starred in. <\/p>\n

\n\tWhile the actress isn\u2019t interested in a direct remake of the 1985 film, she said she wouldn\u2019t mind a new \u201ctake\u201d\u00a0on The Breakfast Club\u2018s story. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI feel like if somebody does something, I would prefer that they do something \u2026 that takes from\u00a0Breakfast Club\u00a0and then builds on [it], and represents this generation\u2019s issues rather than to try to recreate what was of a different time,\u201d Ringwald noted.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Run Amok star also shared the former cast members she crosses paths with: \u201cI still see them from time to time. I seem to see\u00a0Jon Cryer\u00a0the most, but I love them all. Annie \u2014\u00a0I love\u00a0Annie Potts\u00a0\u2014 and I see\u00a0Andrew McCarthy\u00a0from time to time \u2026 It\u2019s hard to believe that it\u2019s been 40 years [since Pretty in Pink came out.]\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRingwald shared a similar during a Breakfast Club reunion<\/a> at Chicago\u2019s C2E2 convention in April 2025. \u201cI personally don\u2019t believe in remaking that movie, because I think this movie is very much of its time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt resonates with people today, but I believe in making movies that are inspired by other movies, but build on it and represent what\u2019s going on today. You know it\u2019s very white, this movie. You don\u2019t see a lot of different ethnicities; we don\u2019t talk about gender, none of that, and I feel like that really doesn\u2019t represent our world today,\u201d Ringwald added. \u201cSo I would like to see movies that are inspired by\u00a0The Breakfast Club\u00a0but take it in a different direction.\u201d<\/p>\n
