{"id":317376,"date":"2026-02-03T02:47:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T02:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/317376\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T02:47:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T02:47:07","slug":"cork-man-banned-from-limerick-village-after-he-unlawfully-entered-lands-with-lurcher-dogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/317376\/","title":{"rendered":"Cork man banned from Limerick village after he unlawfully entered lands with lurcher dogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A CORK man has been ordered by a judge to stay out of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/131\/news\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Bruff<\/a> following his conviction for unlawfully entering lands close to the village with a group of men and dogs.<\/p>\n<p>James O\u2019Brien, aged 23, of The Close, College Wood, Mallow, Co Cork, appeared before<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/463\/crime-court\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> <b>Kilmallock District Court<\/b><\/a>, where he pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 44 of the Wildlife Act 1976, which relates to unlawful hunting or entry onto lands.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard that Mr O\u2019Brien was one of five men who had travelled from Mallow to Bruff with 10 dogs and entered the lands without the owner&#8217;s permission.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding Judge Patricia Harney described the incident as &#8220;quite concerning&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><b>READ ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/motoring-news\/1999864\/alert-gardai-urge-limerick-motorists-to-wake-up-to-major-safety-risk-on-roads.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ALERT: Gardai urge Limerick motorists to &#8216;wake up&#8217; to major safety risk on roads<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Prosecuting Inspector Gear\u00f3id Thompson told the court the case against Mr O\u2019Brien was &#8220;not pointed directly at him&#8221; as he was &#8220;one of a number of men involved&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Having read a victim impact statement from the landowner, Judge Harney noted that he is &#8220;a very worried person about all of this&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Insp Thompson said &#8220;local communities are being terrorised&#8221; by such activity and he noted there has been a &#8220;seasonal scourge&#8221; of similar offences in Limerick and several other counties.<\/p>\n<p>Solicitor Robin Lee, representing Mr O\u2019Brien, told the court that some of the other men who are before the courts had provided garda\u00ed with false names and addresses, but that his client had not.<\/p>\n<p>Having heard the facts, Judge Harney said: &#8220;He travelled here to engage in criminal activity. He is not from here.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Lee replied that while his client had &#8220;participated in this activity,&#8221; he &#8220;did not know where they were going&#8221; and that he didn&#8217;t own any of the dogs.<\/p>\n<p>In reply, Judge Harney commented: &#8220;He knew they weren\u2019t the landowners&#8221;. She noted that the men had \u201cbrought the dogs with them\u201d on the day in question.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Lee again emphasised that his client &#8220;was never in the place before&#8221; and that &#8220;he was brought there&#8221; by the other men.
