{"id":324789,"date":"2026-02-07T07:07:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-07T07:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/324789\/"},"modified":"2026-02-07T07:07:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T07:07:11","slug":"speculation-mounts-over-expansion-of-limerick-hospital-as-land-sale-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/324789\/","title":{"rendered":"Speculation mounts over expansion of Limerick hospital as land sale approved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COUNCILLORS have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/460\/property\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">approved<\/a> the sale of a patch of land to the HSE to allow it to be used by Croom Orthopaedic Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The 1.16 hectares of land owned by the local authority is to be sold to the health service for \u20ac85,000.<\/p>\n<p>However, in a briefing note to councillors, the local authority\u2019s head of property Jayne Leahy says the health service have had a long-standing interest in acquiring the land.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PICTURES:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/pictures---videos\/2005325\/pictures-limerick-homes-seized-by-cab-from-murdered-crime-boss-s-son-going-to-auction.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick homes seized by CAB from murdered crime boss&#8217;s son going to auction<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe requirement for the land is to provide expansion opportunities to support the Croom Orthopaedic Hospital campus\u2019s overall development potential,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Leahy suggested, as an example, the land could be used for parking off the hospital campus itself.<\/p>\n<p>The land itself adjoins the hospital to the east, with Croom Primary Care Centre located immediately south alongside a number of homes.<\/p>\n<p>Agricultural land lies to its north and west.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal to sell the land had to be passed by councillors at the bi-monthly meeting.<\/p>\n<p>This is because the sale of public land to other parties, be they private or public, like the HSE, is something which is in the power of members.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, councillors rubber-stamped the sale of the landmark Toll House, adjacent to Athlunkard Bridge in Corbally, where the Shannon splits the Treaty and the Banner counties.<\/p>\n<p>Long out of use, it dates back to the early 19th century.<\/p>\n<p>A cash buyer has been found for the property, with the new owners planning to rent out the premises.<\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT &#8211;
