A hairdresser from Castlebar in Co Mayo has claimed an \u201cincredible\u201d \u20ac255,000 EuroMillions prize.<\/p>\n
Patrick Monahan won the huge sum from the EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle held in May.<\/p>\n
A well-known local figure in Castlebar with more than 40 years experience in the salon, he bought the winning ticket \u201con a whim\u201d at Duffy\u2019s Costcutter on the Turlough Road in Castlebar just minutes before the cut-off for the draw on Friday, May 30.<\/p>\n
Mr Monahan bought two tickets \u2013 one for himself and another for a friend \u2013 and held out both, asking him to choose \u201cLeft hand or right?\u201d<\/p>\n
The friend took the right hand, leaving him with the left and the winning ticket.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m absolutely thrilled,\u201d Mr Monahan said of the win. \u201cIt\u2019s an incredible amount of money, especially since I thought I\u2019d won \u20ac5,000, not an extra \u20ac250,000.<\/p>\n
He said he plans to celebrate with the friend he bought the other ticket for.<\/p>\n
“We\u2019ve shared plenty of laughs over the years, and this is definitely one we\u2019ll never forget. I couldn\u2019t celebrate without him!\u201d<\/p>\n
