Liverpool\u2019s route to the Champions League<\/a> knockout stages was plotted during Thursday\u2019s draw, and their European campaign is to kick off against Atletico Madrid.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After a random draw by UEFA\u2019s automated software, Liverpool\u2019s eight opponents for the league phase were confirmed, with four matches at home and four away.<\/p>\n

Arne Slot<\/a>\u2018s side were drawn against Real Madrid<\/a> (H), Inter (A), Atletico (H), Frankfurt (A), PSV (H), Marseille (A), Qarabag (H) and Galatasaray (A)<\/strong>, with the first phase of the competition to run until mid-January.<\/p>\n

And now fans can plot their travels with the dates for each of the eight fixtures now locked in.<\/p>\n

In the UK, all fixtures will continue to be broadcast live by TNT Sports and Amazon Prime.<\/p>\n

League Stage Dates<\/p>\n

Matchday 1:<\/strong> Atletico Madrid (H) \u2013 Wednesday, September 17, 8pm (BST)<\/p>\n

Matchday 2:<\/strong> Galatasaray (A) \u2013 Tuesday, September 30, 8pm<\/p>\n

Matchday 3:<\/strong> Eintracht Frankfurt (A) \u2013 Wednesday, October 22, 8pm<\/p>\n

Matchday 4:<\/strong> Real Madrid<\/a> (H) \u2013 Tuesday, November 4, 8pm<\/p>\n

Matchday 5:<\/strong> PSV Eindhoven (H) \u2013 Wednesday, November 26, 8pm<\/p>\n

Matchday 6:<\/strong> Internazionale (A) \u2013 Tuesday, December 9, 8pm<\/p>\n

Matchday 7:<\/strong> Olympique de Marseille (A) \u2013 Wednesday, January 21, 8pm<\/p>\n

In the first edition of the new Champions League<\/a> format, 16 points was enough to qualify for the top eight. Liverpool finished top with 21 and exited the competition at the last 16.<\/p>\n

It could cause a re-think for how Slot approaches the first stage of the competition, though UEFA have sought to incentivise finishing in the top positions.<\/p>\n

From this season, teams ranked one to four are guaranteed a home second leg in the round of 16 and quarter-finals, as long as they get there. The teams that finish first and second will also have home priority in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Priority seeding will be passed over if a team of a lower seeding knocks outs ranks one to four. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the easiest run of fixtures that Liverpool could have been handed, as was also the case last season.<\/p>\n

Then again, we said that this time last year and the Reds finished top of the 36-team group!<\/p>\n

The opener against Atletico Madrid feels like an exciting way for Liverpool to start their European campaign, with Diego Simeone\u2019s side always a tough opponent.<\/p>\n

The trip to Galatasaray has the potential to be a huge challenge, however, not least because of their famously vociferous fans. <\/p>\n

It is the visit of Real Madrid<\/a> that clearly stands out the most, though, due to the Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/a> factor.<\/p>\n

Liverpool\u2019s former right-back could be in for a tough reception when he returns to Anfield \u2013 that\u2019s assuming he isn\u2019t benched again, mind!<\/p>\n

The prestige of playing Madrid always makes this a special fixture, but this one has the potential to have some added bite.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, finishing the group phase at home to Qarabag feels ideal, should Liverpool need a positive result on the night. <\/p>\n
