\n\tOriginal director Chris Columbus<\/a> has completely shut down the idea of returning to \u201cHarry Potter<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a recent interview with The Times of London<\/a>, Columbus, who helmed the first two \u201cHarry Potter\u201d films, said it\u2019s \u201cimpossible\u201d for him to return to the franchise because of the political stir provoked by creator J.K. Rowling<\/a>\u2018s controversial views on the trans community.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s never going to happen,\u201d Columbus said when asked about directing another \u201cHarry Potter\u201d film. \u201cIt\u2019s gotten so complicated with all the political stuff. Everyone in the cast has their own opinion, which is different from [Rowling\u2019s] opinion, which makes it impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tColumbus explained that he and Rowling don\u2019t speak, but added he stays in contact with franchise stars like Daniel Radcliffe.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI haven\u2019t spoken to Miss Rowling in a decade or so, so I have no idea what\u2019s going on with her, but I keep very close contact with Daniel Radcliffe, and I just spoke to him a few days ago,\u201d he said. \u201cI still have a great relationship with all the kids in the cast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThis isn\u2019t the first time Columbus expressed disinterest in returning to \u201cHarry Potter.\u201d He recently told Variety<\/a> at the London premiere of Netflix\u2019s \u201cThursday Murder Club\u201d that audiences have seen \u201cmy version\u201d and that \u201cthere\u2019s nothing left for me to do in the world of Potter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also spoke on Rowling\u2019s comments against trans identity, calling her stance on the matter \u201cvery sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI like to sometimes separate the artist from the art, I think that\u2019s important to do,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate, what\u2019s happened. I certainly don\u2019t agree with what she\u2019s talking about. But it\u2019s just sad, it\u2019s very sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHBO will soon bring the Wizarding World to the small screen with its highly anticipated television adaptation<\/a> from showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod.
