{"id":33647,"date":"2025-08-30T23:06:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T23:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/33647\/"},"modified":"2025-08-30T23:06:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T23:06:17","slug":"discounted-child-leap-fares-extended-to-dublin-commuter-towns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/33647\/","title":{"rendered":"Discounted child Leap fares extended to Dublin commuter towns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">From Monday, September 1, children under 18 travelling on public transport within the Dublin Commuter Leap Fare Zone will be eligible for a 67pc discount compared with adult fares.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The move brings outer suburban areas into line with the discounts already available within the Dublin City Zone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The change follows a series of fare adjustments earlier this year, which redrew boundaries to create four new Leap fare zones across Dublin and its surrounding commuter belt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The NTA says the new structure is designed to make travel more affordable for families and encourage greater use of public transport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The discount applies to daily, weekly and monthly Child Leap products and can be purchased via the Leap top-up app or at leapcard.ie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Among the towns set to benefit are Balbriggan, Skerries, Greystones, Kilcoole, Kilcock and Sallins\/Naas, all within Zone 2 of the new commuter structure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">At present, children using a weekly Leap product for journeys to Dublin city centre pay \u20ac16. From Monday, the cost will fall to \u20ac10.60 \u2014 a saving of \u20ac5.40, or 33pc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The revised fares will also allow children travelling in from Zones 2, 3 and 4 to continue their journey within the city centre at no extra charge, whether by train, Luas or Dublin Bus services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Jeremy Ryan, Director of Public Transport Services at the NTA, said the move was introduced following feedback from families across commuter towns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cWe\u2019ve heard from families and communities across the new commuter zones, and we\u2019ve listened,\u201d he said. \u201cBy aligning child fare discounts across Zones 2, 3 and 4 with those in Dublin City, we\u2019re making public transport more affordable and accessible for young people, wherever they live.
