Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette showrunner Connor Hines is standing by his decision not to involve the irl Kennedy family in his and Ryan Murphy\u2019s TV show. \u201cAs a writer, it\u2019s more healthy and effective to have some distance from the subject matter,\u201d he told\u00a0Variety<\/a>. \u201cIt allows you to be a lot more objective in how you approach the material, versus when you\u2019re talking to people personally, you feel a sense of responsibility of relaying exactly what they\u2019re telling you because they\u2019ve given you their time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like so many Ryan Murphy joints, Love Story is a dramatic retelling of real people\u2019s lives and deaths. But unlike the people who may have objected their family members\u2019 portrayal in the Monster series<\/a>, the Kennedy family is prominent enough that they can go straight to the press with their qualms. Jack Schlossberg, JFK Jr.\u2019s nephew, expressed his dismay with Love Story in July 2025<\/a>, calling it \u201cgrotesque\u201d and asking those making the show to donate to the John F. Kennedy Library. \u201cFor those wondering whether his family was ever consulted, or has anything to do with the new show being made about him, the answer is no, and there\u2019s really not much we can do,\u201d he wrote on IG stories. Ryan Murphy responded that he thought it was an \u201codd choice to be mad about your relative that you really don\u2019t remember.\u201d Schlossberg then responded that he did remember his uncle, actually, and the real oddity was \u201cthat the actor playing the sexiest man alive is bloated !\u201d Judge the show\u2019s grotesquerie (and bloating), as the first three episodes of Love Story are streaming now on Hulu.<\/p>\n
