SWAT, the long-running police procedural<\/a> starring Shemar Moore, is having a new season added to Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The fan-favourite series, a reboot of the show that aired in the 1970s, follows Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr, a sergeant for the Special Weapons and Tactics team as part of the Los Angeles’ police force. <\/p>\n

Boasting a stacked ensemble cast including Jay Harrington and David Lim, the first six seasons of the show are currently available to stream on Netflix, but the streamer will be delivering the seventh season on 2 September<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

The 13-part season was originally intended to be the final swansong<\/a> for the series, which had premiered in 2017. After being cancelled by CBS in May 2023<\/a>, the network reversed their decision in April and subsequently greenlit an eighth season. <\/p>\n

It delayed the seemingly-inevitable, however, after CBS once again axed the series in March<\/a>, with its final episode airing in May. The eighth season consisted of 22 instalments, with the total episode count for the whole series coming to 163. <\/p>\n

“It\u2019s heartbreaking news, primarily because it\u2019s been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew to put out a show that we\u2019ve always been proud of,” said showrunner Andrew Dettmann of the cancellation. <\/p>\n

“They are truly an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been so dedicated for all these eight seasons, overcoming countless challenges. I can\u2019t give them enough credit. I feel so privileged to have been a part of the SWAT family.”<\/p>\n

The news no doubt came as a disappointment to viewers, who had scored the show positively during its eight-year lifespan. On IMDb<\/a>, the police procedural currently boasts an impressive user rating of 7.2 out of 10 from over 32,000 reviews. <\/p>\n

“I don’t know why but I enjoy watching SWAT. Yes it has its faults here and there but I’ve seen much worse shows out there,” wrote one user<\/a>, while another opined<\/a> that it was “entertaining” and “very well written”.<\/p>\n

While Netflix<\/a> will soon have the first seven seasons on its service, the eighth season is currently airing on Sky Max, with episodes dropping on Sundays. All of the other episodes are there too, so you have the best of both worlds.<\/p>\n

SWAT <\/strong>season 7 is coming to Netflix on 2 September. New episodes from season 8 air on Sky Max every Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n
