\n\tJeremy Strong<\/a> fans will learn this the hard way come October 24, when \u201cSpringsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere<\/a>\u201d hits theaters. Variety can report that a divisive monologue performed by Strong in the film\u2019s official trailer has been snipped from the final product, the result of a creative decision by director Scott Cooper, per one source. <\/p>\n \n\tStrong plays longtime Bruce Springsteen manager Jon Landau in the unconventional and emotionally charged biopic, which shows the rocker (played by Jeremy Allen White) coming to grips with his depression during the production of the 1982 album \u201cNebraska.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWhen Bruce was little, he had a hole in the floor of his bedroom. A floor that\u2019s supposed to be solid, he\u2019s supposed to be able to stand on. Bruce didn\u2019t have that,\u201d Strong narrates in the still-circulating trailer<\/a>. \u201cBruce is a repairman. What he\u2019s doing with this album is, he\u2019s repairing that hole in his floor. Repairing that hole in himself. Once he\u2019s done that, he\u2019s going to repair the entire world.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tWhile the speech captures Landau\u2019s hand in Springsteen\u2019s personal and artistic development (stand-in father, consigliere, best friend), many took to social media to mock the prose and how it sets the film\u2019s dramatic stakes. One user appropriated the monologue as an origin story<\/a> for Fozzie Bear. It then became the latest and greatest<\/a> use of the Mary Jane Defending Peter Parker template. The examples go on.<\/p>\n \n\tAn insider familiar with the film said that \u201cin examining the film, it felt unnecessary.\u201d A rep for the project had no comment on the matter.<\/p>\n \n\tWhile it may be easy to take shots at Strong\u2019s \u201cCapital-A Acting\u201d or even Cooper\u2019s script adaptation, we should note that at Friday\u2019s Telluride world premiere of \u201cDeliver Me From Nowhere,\u201d Strong elicited a positive response. His soft-touch portrait of Landau, sneaker-clad and with receding hair and concerned glances, tugged heartstrings.
