{"id":339148,"date":"2026-02-15T20:17:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T20:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/339148\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T20:17:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T20:17:08","slug":"people-say-these-absolutely-horrid-glp-1-side-effects-are-worth-it-for-weight-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/339148\/","title":{"rendered":"People say these &#8216;absolutely horrid&#8217; GLP-1 side effects are &#8216;worth it&#8217; for weight loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s worth the weight \u2014 loss, that is.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their blockbuster popularity, GLP-1 medications come with a handful of side effects, mainly along the lines of gastrointestinal issues like nausea and constipation.<\/p>\n<p>But for many, the results justify the suffering, as one study shows the main motivator behind the continued use of the weight loss drugs.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38499405\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diabetic-person-using-insulin-semaglutide-117210719.jpg\" alt=\"A person with an insulin pen injecting their abdomen to control diabetes or for weight loss.\" class=\"wp-image-38499405\"  \/>GLP-1 side effects like nausea and constipation haven\u2019t stopped some from achieving their weight loss goals. millaf (Nemchinova) \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>It turns out people are willing to endure a lot if it means they meet their weight loss goals.<\/p>\n<p>And users of Ozempic are more than willing to endure \u201cabsolutely horrid\u201d side effects that would even leave them bedridden for days, according to research from Rutgers University and the University of Sydney.<\/p>\n<p>An analysis of 60 online reviews from people using the drug for weight loss, published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jmir.org\/2026\/1\/e78391\/authors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Journal of Medical Internet Research<\/a>, found that adverse reactions\u201a even constant vomiting, didn\u2019t cause users to discontinue treatment \u2014 so long as the numbers on the scale were going down.<\/p>\n<p>Two-thirds of reviewers who reported weight loss, suppressed appetite or food cravings disappearing gave the medication high marks, even if they were out of commission.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38499406\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/pregnant-drunk-illness-concept-young-116380330_d94ed7.jpg\" alt=\"A young woman in a white tank top and blue patterned pajama bottoms leans over a toilet, holding her stomach, as if vomiting.\" class=\"wp-image-38499406\"  \/>While many are severely affected by gastrointestinal side effects, many keep using them if they\u2019re still losing weight. Dragana Gordic \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>And those who were continuing to see the pounds come off plan to stay on the drug after dealing with nausea and stomach problems, saying, \u201cThe side effects at the beginning were worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But despite whether or not someone lost weight, all the users experienced one of the five most common symptoms of nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation.<\/p>\n<p>Some users saw the effects as useful for giving up bad habits that could worsen issues like constipation.<\/p>\n<p>About half of reviewers noticed drastic changes in their appetites \u2014 a key effect of GLP-1s \u2014 yet several still didn\u2019t see the scale budge and decided to stop the drug.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers also noted that more serious complications, like dehydration and blood loss, were more common among people who gave lower ratings or planned to stop.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41591-024-02996-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Clinical trials<\/a> of semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic) have shown that weight loss plateaus after about a year.<\/p>\n<p>Those who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/12\/health\/glp-1-mistake-can-make-you-gain-weight-4-times-faster-than-stopping-diet-exercise\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">quit GLP-1s often see the pounds come right back on<\/a>, even up to four times faster if physical activity and healthy eating aren\u2019t kept up with.<\/p>\n<p>Stomach issues aren\u2019t the only side effects that come with medications that promise to help people shed weight.<\/p>\n<p>Many have noticed <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/25\/health\/people-with-ozempic-face-are-doing-this-to-fight-wrinkles-and-sagging\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sagging jowls<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/17\/ozempic-burp-latest-horrible-side-effect-of-weight-loss-drug\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sulfurous burping<\/a>, a runny nose and a host of other <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/28\/health\/the-most-bizarre-side-effects-of-glp-1-weight-loss-drugs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">strange issues<\/a> with the jab.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It\u2019s worth the weight \u2014 loss, that is.
