Omloop Farmhouse, Belgium, by H\u00e9!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Architecture studio H\u00e9!<\/a> inserted a glazed timber and metal volume into the roof of a traditional Flemish home in Belgium<\/a> to create a living space on its upper floor.<\/p>\n

Surrounded by a hilly landscape, the renovation to the home was designed to improve its connection with nature and establish a more compact internal layout.<\/p>\n

\"Mygunyah<\/a><\/p>\n

Mygunyah by the Circus, Australia, Matt Gibson Architecture + Design\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Australian studio\u00a0Matt Gibson Architecture + Design<\/a> added two contrasting brick extensions<\/a> to a 19th-century terraced house in Melbourne to create a home named Mygunyah by the Circus.<\/p>\n

Both of the extensions were informed by Arts and Crafts-style architecture and were added to the long, narrow home in North Fitzroy to enlarge the house\u00a0to better accommodate a family of seven.<\/p>\n

Birdwood, Australia, Peter Besley<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

In Brisbane<\/a>, Australia, architect Peter Besley wrapped a house in perforated screens of reclaimed terracotta<\/a>\u00a0brick and metal\u00a0mesh<\/a> for climbing plants.<\/p>\n

Named Birdwood, the home at the base of Mount Coot-tha was designed for a multi-generational family that wanted a dwelling where they could age in place.<\/p>\n

\"Hors\u00f6<\/a><\/p>\n

Hors\u00f6, Sweden, Bross and Nick Flygt<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Named Hors\u00f6, this minimalist summer house<\/a>\u00a0was finished in untreated wood<\/a> to complement its woodland surroundings in Kalmar, Sweden.<\/p>\n

The house was designed by Bross and Nick Flygt to have expansive views while having a “low-key presence” that disrupts the natural surroundings as little as possible.<\/p>\n

\"Patio<\/a><\/p>\n

Patio House, Italy, by Solum<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Italian architecture practice Solum created a narrow alleyway that winds between the monolithic, blocky volumes as the entrance to this house in Sicily.<\/p>\n

Located on a coastal site, the studio aimed to contrast the open views of the sea at one end of the home with “labyrinthine” spaces at the other.<\/p>\n
