{"id":34727,"date":"2025-08-31T13:57:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-31T13:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/34727\/"},"modified":"2025-08-31T13:57:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-31T13:57:14","slug":"former-limerick-association-in-london-chairman-sadly-goes-to-his-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/34727\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Limerick Association in London chairman sadly goes to his God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE LONG-TIME chairman of the Limerick Association in London, Con Dee has sadly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/514\/deaths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">passed away<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tributes have been paid to the Murroe-born man, who for many years, provided support to the expatriate Limerick community in the British capital.<\/p>\n<p>A military man, Con served in Limerick, at the Curragh, and at the Coastal Defence Military Corps in Spike Island, Co Cork.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/community\/1880693\/gardai-thank-limerick-public-as-missing-teenager-located-safe-and-well.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Gardai thank Limerick public as missing teenager located safe and well<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like so many before and after him, Con found opportunities in 1960s Ireland hard to come by.<\/p>\n<p>So, in 1962, he moved to London with his late wife Monica.<\/p>\n<p>From the outset, he was heavily involved in the growing Irish community in Britain\u2019s largest city.<\/p>\n<p>For many years, he led the London St Patrick\u2019s Day parade, carrying the tricolour in his Irish army uniform.<\/p>\n<p>His passion was the GAA, and each year, he carried out a clean-up of the final resting place in Kensal Green of Sean Og Hanley, the Kilfinane man, who was a member of the first ever Limerick team to win an All-Ireland hurling title.<\/p>\n<p>Con initially worked as a labourer, before moving to Pride and Clarke car sales, where he worked as a litigation manager.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, he settled in south London, where he laid down his roots in Balham.<\/p>\n<p>The community became home for the Dee family.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday mornings, the smell of a fry-up often filled the house while c\u00e8ilidh music played, a reflection of Con\u2019s deep love of Ireland and his determination to keep his heritage alive.<\/p>\n<p>Tributes were paid to Con from the Organisation of National Ex-Servicemen, and London GAA, while his family have thanked those who have been in contact with warm words of tribute.<\/p>\n<p>His eldest daughter Nodlaig passed away recently, with the love of Con\u2019s life Monica sadly dying in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by daughters Carol, Mary and Sandra and his son Paul.<\/p>\n<p>His funeral will take place on Monday, September 8, at 11am in The Holy Ghost Church, Balham, London, SW12 8QJ.<\/p>\n<p>May he rest in peace.<\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT &#8211; CONTINUE READING BELOW<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"THE LONG-TIME chairman of the Limerick Association in London, Con Dee has sadly passed away.
