Michael McIntyre has established himself as a household name following his rise to prominence on the British comedy<\/a> scene.<\/p>\n

The stand-up performer, who celebrates his 50th birthday this weekend, can point to an impressive array of major successes on his CV, including The Wheel, Mock the Week and his eponymous programmes, Big Show<\/a> and Comedy Roadshow.<\/p>\n

The floppy-haired entertainer, who achieved the status of world’s highest-earning comedian in 2012 with ticket revenues reaching an extraordinary \u00a321 million from a 71-date tour, remains highly sought after.<\/p>\n

Yet, when he’s not performing on stage, delivering laughs for his devoted fanbase, Michael treasures time with his family, including cherished wife Kitty, who comes from a notably famous family….<\/p>\n

Famous in-laws<\/p>\n

Michael has been married to aromatherapist Kitty, who has a celebrated family background, since 2003. Kitty’s father is actor Simon Ward, while her sister, Sophie Ward, also works in the acting profession, reports the Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Simon, who passed away in 2012, was particularly recognised for portraying Winston Churchill in the 1972 film Young Winston, alongside his appearances in Judge John Deed and The Tudors.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sophie took on the recurring character of Dr Helen Trent in the enduring ITV drama Heartbeat, and also played Sophia Byrne in Holby City.<\/p>\n

‘Stalking’ his wife<\/p>\n

Michael initially encountered Kitty during his early twenties and dedicated two years to persuading her to accept a date with him.<\/p>\n

“We had a really good start and I think she really liked me but I didn’t know how to handle that,” he revealed on Desert Island Discs in 2011, recounting how he’d declared to his family that he intended to marry Kitty following their initial date.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the pair’s formative period in his 2010 memoir, Life and Laughing, Michael described his initial reaction to Kitty, enthusing: “She was the girl I had been looking for. In the romantic comedy that was my life, this would have made a good ending.<\/p>\n

“We would fall happily ever after. Within moments of seeing her and chatting to her I was totally up for that ending. \u00adUnfortunately, she wasn’t.”<\/p>\n

Resolute in his pursuit of Kitty, Michael would frequently ring her, accumulating a “record-breaking” tally of unanswered calls as he was hesitant to leave voicemail messages. Jokingly describing himself as a “stalker”, Michael confessed how he ultimately relocated to a flat directly opposite the future Mrs McIntyre’s residence.<\/p>\n

Gran tried to sabotage relationship<\/p>\n

While Michael eventually succeeded in proposing to Kitty, his grandmother found it difficult to embrace the new woman in his life.<\/p>\n

Regrettably, this developed into quite a “vicious” situation, with the comedian acknowledging: “Unfortunately my grandma didn’t really like it when I got a girlfriend.<\/p>\n

“She was trying to break us up which was funny for a whilst but then it became quite vicious, an untenable \u00adsituation.”<\/p>\n

Family Life<\/p>\n

After finally finding stability, Michael and Kitty were blessed with two sons, Lucas and Oscar, who frequently feature in Michael’s stand-up material.<\/p>\n

In one of his most notable quips about his children, Michael joked: “My son’s got two words: car and map, that’s all he can say. ‘Car, car, map, car!’ I’m fairly worried he’s trying to escape. So if the next word is passport, we’re in serious trouble.”<\/p>\n

As his children have grown older, the comedy legend admitted they aren’t particularly impressed by his fame. In a 2020 interview with the Mail on Sunday, he confessed: “I have only done this Netflix show to appear cool to them, but they watch other things. I am not a comedy star in their eyes. My teenage son thinks I am a very annoying person.”<\/p>\n

Luxurious Homes<\/p>\n

Michael has amassed considerable wealth as a popular comedian and TV<\/a> personality, investing in opulent properties in the upscale London suburb of Hampstead and Wiltshire.<\/p>\n

The comic made a significant move on the property market in 2020, splurging a whopping \u00a310million on a London residence boasting eight bedrooms, a subterranean swimming pool, its own cinema, as well as spa and gym facilities.<\/p>\n
