{"id":35429,"date":"2025-08-31T23:16:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-31T23:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/35429\/"},"modified":"2025-08-31T23:16:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-31T23:16:13","slug":"luas-faces-disruption-as-bridge-to-be-demolished-and-rebuilt-following-fire-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/35429\/","title":{"rendered":"Luas faces disruption as bridge to be demolished and rebuilt following fire \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/luas\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/luas\">Luas<\/a> Red Line services between Connolly and the Point will be suspended until the end of November to allow a new bridge to be built. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A replacement bus service will be put in place, a spokesman for Transdev Dublin Light Rail said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">This follows an assessment of the affected George\u2019s Dock Bridge which was recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/dublin\/2025\/08\/27\/luas-disruption-large-portions-of-dublin-system-shut-down-amid-power-failure\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/dublin\/2025\/08\/27\/luas-disruption-large-portions-of-dublin-system-shut-down-amid-power-failure\/\">damaged in a fire<\/a>. It found the bridge to be structurally compromised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The existing bridge will need to be demolished, and a new bridge constructed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A programme for a replacement bridge has been developed, said the spokesman. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThis programme shows completion of works at the end of November this year, and Luas Red Line services will remain suspended between Connolly and The Point until that time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cTo ensure continuity of service for passengers, a replacement bus service will operate from Monday, 1st September, covering the affected section of the line.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Emergency personnel at George's Dock Bridge in Dublin city after a fire broke out there on Tuesday of last week. Photo: Damien Storan <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe service will run every 10 minutes and will operate during Luas operating hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cAll buses will be wheelchair accessible on the lower deck,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cValid Luas tickets and TFI Leap Cards will be required to travel. Luas staff will be on site to assist passengers throughout the disruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">To facilitate the demolition of the bridge, changes to the overhead power cables will be required. This will require a further curtailment of Luas services on Tuesday, September 2nd, and Wednesday, September 3rd, from 7pm on both days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">After 7pm, services will only run from Saggart and Tallaght to Smithfield. Morning services are unaffected.
