A Jane Schoenbrun<\/a> summer is on the horizon. The auteur<\/a> behind \u201cWe\u2019re All Going to the World\u2019s Fair\u201d and \u201cI Saw the TV Glow\u201d is returning with their third feature film<\/a>, \u201cTeenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,\u201d<\/a> a love letter to slasher franchises with endless sequels that appears to be filled with the themes that have defined Schoenbrun\u2019s entire career.<\/p>\n

Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder star in the film, which tells the story of a torrid romance between a filmmaker tasked with resurrecting a tired horror franchise and its reclusive star. Schoenbrun has previously described the film as the kind of movie they would have discovered in the ignored sections of a video store in their youth.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI make movies I wish existed when I was a kid and \u2018Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma<\/a>\u2019 is my best attempt at the \u2018sleepover classic:\u2019 an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store,\u201d they said in a statement announcing the project. \u201cI couldn\u2019t be more excited to be heading to sleepaway camp this summer with the mad comic genius Hannah Einbinder, the legendary Gillian Anderson, and the daring folks at MUBI and Plan B, who by greenlighting this movie have summoned a plague-like flood of blood, guts, and various other fluids to rain down on us all.\u201d<\/p>\n

An official synopsis for the film reads: \u201cAfter years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie\u2019s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans of Schoenbrun\u2019s distinct style should have no shortage of projects to feast upon in the near future. Their debut novel, \u201cPublic Access Afterworld,\u201d<\/a> will be published this fall by Random House imprint Hogarth Books. They\u2019ll also be making their TV debut on the Netflix series \u201cBlack Hole,\u201d<\/a> an adaptation of Charles Burns\u2019\u00a0cult comic book series of the same name. <\/p>\n

MUBI will release \u201cTeenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma\u201d in theaters on Friday, August 7.
