Kristen Wiig is opening up about filming the food poisoning scene in Bridesmaids<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
In a new video filmed for Vanity Fair, the actress spoke about making the film, saying that scene in particular wasn’t part of the original script<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
“It was so fun to do that scene and to see … everyone’s version of not feeling well and trying to hide it,” she said<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Kristen Wiig<\/a>\u00a0is recounting the now-iconic food poisoning scene in their 2011 hit film Bridesmaids<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a new video filmed for Vanity Fair<\/a>, the actress spoke about making the film, with Wiig, 52, saying that scene in particular wasn’t part of the original script.<\/p>\n “That was a sequence that came later in the writing process,” Wiig noted of the scene, adding, “We just kind of made it our own. We don’t want to see any vomit [but] you can find a way to do your version of it.”<\/p>\n She added: “It was so fun to do that scene and to see … everyone’s version of not feeling well and trying to hide it. It was fun to watch the ladies do their thing.”<\/p>\n Never miss a story \u2014 sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter<\/a> to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer\u200b\u200b, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.<\/strong><\/p>\n In the film, Wiig plays Annie, a woman who experiences a series of mishaps after being asked to serve as maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding.<\/p>\n Rose Byrne<\/a>, 46, plays Helen, a more well-put-together friend of the bride who attempts to take over the maid-of-honor duties.<\/p>\n The scene in question sees Wiig’s character taking the group of bridesmaids to a Brazilian restaurant \u2014 after which the women are all struck down by food poisoning while trying on dresses in an upscale bridal store.<\/p>\n Rose Byrne and Kristen Wiig Reunite for Vanity Fair Director Paul Feig spoke to Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> about the scene in a 2019 interview, saying Wiig was initially nervous that he and producer Judd Apatow “were going to turn it into a guy\u2019s version of a woman\u2019s movie.”<\/p>\n “We wanted a big, physical water cooler scene set piece, as they call it in comedy, that could be super funny and active and really get some attention. But also none of us wanted to do a scene which is just going to be mayhem for mayhem\u2019s sake,” he said. “To us the funniest thing was just how everybody handles it up until the point when it all falls apart.”<\/p>\n He continued: “Will [Annie] admit to her enemy that she did something wrong? And so that\u2019s really what that scene\u2019s about.”<\/p>\n The 2011 comedy also featured\u00a0Wendi McLendon-Covey<\/a>,\u00a0Ellie Kemper<\/a>\u00a0and a breakout performance by\u00a0Melissa McCarthy<\/a>\u00a0that landed her a Best Supporting Actress\u00a0Oscar<\/a>\u00a0nomination.
