The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call from a Hollywood Hills home at 6:41 p.m. and pronounced her deceased.

The Short family confirmed her death in a statement released Tuesday, People reported. The statement read: “The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”

Katherine Short was adopted by the “Only Murders in the Building” actor and his wife, Nancy Dolman, who died of ovarian cancer in 2010, according to People. The couple shared two other children via adoption, Oliver Patrick, 39, and Henry Hayter, 36.

Following news of Katherine Short’s death, many of the actor and comedian’s A-list friends rushed to the home of his son, Henry, to offer support to the family, including Steven Spielberg, Kurt Russell and Eugene Levy, the Daily Mail reported.

“Short is inconsolable,” a source told the Daily Mail. “For someone who brings so much joy to so many, who is always trying to lift others up and make them laugh, this loss has completely shattered him.”

After Katherine Short received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and gender sexuality studies from New York University in 2006, she went on to earn her master’s in social work from the University of Southern California in 2010, People reported.
