\u201cIt is a hospital that is so loved,\u201d declared Cork TD Noel McCarthy after St Patrick\u2019s Community Hospital in Fermoy was allocated \u20ac4,547,340 for a refurbishment and extension of the community nursing unit.<\/p>\n
The HSE capital investment plan was recently unveiled for this year, and Cork has been allocated over \u20ac111 million in funding as part of a \u20ac1.3 billion allocation nationally for the development and enhancement of healthcare infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Fine Gael TD for Cork East Noel McCarthy said the funding announced for St Patrick\u2019s Community Hospital, Fermoy represents great news for the general hinterland. \u201cIt is a hospital that we are very proud of in the community. It has great staff and it is so well-run. They always have a great fundraising committee. It is so highly regarded in the local community and the surrounding areas. They provide a fantastic service, and we are so lucky to have it in Fermoy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The funding allocated to St Patrick\u2019s Community Hospital will enable a refurbishment and extension of the community nursing unit to take place.<\/p>\n
Deputy McCarthy said the funding allocation had been on the cards for a while. \u201cSt Patrick\u2019s Community Hospital, Fermoy is very dear to my heart. It serves people from the town and all the surrounding villages. It goes all the way out beyond Mitchelstown and it goes into the Waterford border. It goes as far as Watergrasshill and Rathrcormac and serves our surrounding areas such as Kilworth and Conna.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are so delighted to have a hospital of that quality in our area. The money will allow it to expand, redevelop and to upgrade. It is a huge boost for the hospital and the fantastic staff. The hospital plays a huge part in the community. This money will ensure the hospital continues to go from strength to strength,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Mallow General Hospital also benefited significantly from the HSE capital investment plan.<\/p>\n
The hospital was allocated \u20ac3.3m for the provision of a 24 bed inpatient ward.<\/p>\n
The allocated funding will also enable the fit-out of existing ground floor shell and core space to provide an outpatient\/day clinic ward, including clinical rooms and additional capacity to support the establishment and operation of an obesity\/bariatric clinic.<\/p>\n
Mallow General Hospital was also allocated \u20ac168,420 for property purchase and fitout, while \u20ac1,684,200 was allocated to Mallow Ambulance Base for a new ambulance base.<\/p>\n
Mallow based councillor Pat Hayes who serves on the health forum said they are pushing all the time for additional funding. \u201cHuge investment has gone into Mallow General Hospital in the last few years. It has been a priority for us to keep pushing that.The money is all part of the kitting out and finishing the extension. It is all part of the plans for Mallow General Hospital going forward. The 24-bed inpatient ward is ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Fianna F\u00e1il councillor said the funding is very welcome and great news for the future of Mallow General Hospital. \u201cIt is the continuous investment by government and our local people in Mallow General Hospital.
