First Reactions From the Premiere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/maggie-gyllenhaal\/\" id=\"auto-tag_maggie-gyllenhaal_1\" data-tag=\"maggie-gyllenhaal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maggie Gyllenhaal<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/the-bride-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-bride-2_1\" data-tag=\"the-bride-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Bride!<\/a> held its world premiere in London\u2019s West End on Thursday night, and not long after the screening, early reactions to the Warner Bros. film started to hit social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThose who attended the premiere praised Gyllenhaal\u2019s ambition and risk taking and also star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jessie-buckley\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jessie-buckley_1\" data-tag=\"jessie-buckley\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jessie Buckley<\/a>\u2018s performance. There was also praise for co-lead <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/christian-bale\/\" id=\"auto-tag_christian-bale_1\" data-tag=\"christian-bale\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Christian Bale<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tGyllenhaal\u2019s follow-up to her directorial debut The Lost Daughter, The Bride! is a brash and imaginative take on Mary Shelley\u2019s classic story Frankenstein. Set in 1930s Chicago, the film centers on a lonesome monster, played by Bale, who recruits Dr. Euphronios to create a companion for himself. The two revive a murdered young woman and the titular bride, played by Buckley, is born. A cracked love story, the monster and his bride then embark on a killing spree, while being pursued by the police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAs well as Shelley\u2019s 1818 novel, the film draws inspiration from the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein. Gyllenhaal directs from her own screenplay and produces alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman Keren.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Bride! is something of a family affair with the cast including Maggie Gyllenhaal\u2019s brother Jake and husband Peter Sarsgaard. The film also stars Annette Bening and Penelope Cruz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe embargo for full critics\u2019 reviews of The Bride! lifts on March 4.
