{"id":359633,"date":"2026-02-27T20:25:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T20:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/359633\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T20:25:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T20:25:11","slug":"hungarys-ukraine-pipeline-claims-are-nonsense-lithuanian-pm-tells-euronews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/359633\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungary\u2019s Ukraine pipeline claims are \u2018nonsense,\u2019 Lithuanian PM tells Euronews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    Published on                 27\/02\/2026 &#8211; 9:35 GMT+1\u2022Updated<br \/>\n                                     11:52\n                                        <\/p>\n<p>Lithuania&#8217;s Prime Minister Inga Ruginien\u0117 has rejected Hungarian Premier Viktor Orb\u00e1n&#8217;s claims that Ukraine is deliberately blocking Russian oil from reaching Hungary via the damaged Druzhba pipeline, calling the accusation &#8220;nonsense&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n          ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n          ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you&#8217;re fighting for security, not just for Lithuania, but for whole Europe, to hear such words and decisions, it&#8217;s nonsense,\u201d Ruginien\u0117 told Euronews&#8217; Europe Today show.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary is blocking the EU&#8217;s 20th sanctions package against Russia and preventing Brussels from delivering a \u20ac90 billion loan to Ukraine, demanding Kyiv restore oil flows through the pipeline. <\/p>\n<p>Kyiv claims that a section of the pipeline in western Ukraine was hit by a Russian drone as part of Moscow\u2019s relentless air raid campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure this winter. <\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s continuous drone and missile strikes have cut heating, water and electricity to millions of homes as well as hospitals, schools and other civilian infrastructures amid harsh winter temperatures. <\/p>\n<p>Both Hungary and Slovakia were given opt-outs from Western sanctions against Russian oil. <\/p>\n<p>Hungary is using its veto power in the 27-member bloc to hold up the passage of the EU\u2019s 20th sanctions package and to prevent Brussels from delivering a \u20ac90-billion lifeline loan to Ukraine. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is unacceptable,\u201d said Ruginien\u0117, urging the EU to speak with one unified voice in the face of Russia&#8217;s ongoing war.<\/p>\n<p>She said all of Europe was vulnerable to the Kremlin&#8217;s aggression, warning that Hungary is mistaken if it believes Russian President Vladimir Putin would not target it as well as the rest of the EU. <\/p>\n<p>Ruginien\u0117 said she &#8220;didn&#8217;t understand\u201d Orban&#8217;s belief that \u201cthe war will not come to Hungary.\u201d \u201cWe as Lithuania, we have big experience about Soviet Union times.
