class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/sensetime?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">SenseTime<\/a> is on a fast track to turn a profit thanks to its strategy of spinning off noncore operations as well as support from Beijing, CEO Xu Li said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In an interview with the Post on Friday, Xu said SenseTime\u2019s 1+X strategy, where \u201c1\u201d refers to its core AI business and \u201cX\u201d encompasses other ventures, is paying off as the company\u2019s first-half adjusted loss narrowed by 50 per cent from a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThe speed of narrowing losses will only accelerate in the second half of this year,\u201d Xu said, adding that if the company took more operations off the balance sheet, \u201cwe would be profitable immediately\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">He also said \u201cthe speed of loss reduction in the second half will not be low\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The company had four key \u201cX\u201d businesses at the end of June: smart auto, healthcare, robotics and retail, and SenseTime plans to make them into independent business entities by encouraging the company\u2019s executives to become \u201cre co-founders\u201d, Xu said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">He said the changes, which were put into implementation last year, have inspired the company\u2019s employees.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cPreviously SenseTime had to lead them to move forward, now they can lead SenseTime to move forward,\u201d Xu said. \u201cThey are put in control of promising businesses&#8230;and they can go to the market to find external
