{"id":36533,"date":"2025-09-01T13:19:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T13:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/36533\/"},"modified":"2025-09-01T13:19:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T13:19:08","slug":"fabrizio-romano-explains-why-jadon-sancho-is-at-fault-for-man-uniteds-emi-martinez-deal-collapsing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/36533\/","title":{"rendered":"Fabrizio Romano explains why Jadon Sancho is at fault for Man United&#8217;s Emi Martinez deal collapsing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Manchester United were pushing ahead with a deal to sign Emiliano Martinez on deadline day before it all came crumbling apart.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Signing a new goalkeeper was a top priority for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/club\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Manchester United<\/a> on the final day of the transfer window, and Ineos have made it happen with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/transfer-news\/david-ornstein-says-man-utd-total-agreement-to-sign-new-goalkeeper-on-transfer-deadline-day\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a317m deal for Senne Lammens agreed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lammens is set to join as Ruben Amorim\u2019s fifth major addition of the summer, but just hours before that deal was announced it seemed as though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/emiliano-martinez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emiliano Martinez<\/a> was the favourite.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/transfer-news\/good-riddance-man-united-fans-react-to-jadon-sancho-joining-aston-villa-as-contract-debate-now-heats-up\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jadon Sancho is set to join Aston Villa<\/a>, and it seemed as though he would be included as part of a deal that saw Martinez join the Red Devils.<\/p>\n<p>But now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/emiliano-martinez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">United have ended their pursuit of Martinez<\/a>, and it seems <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/jadon-sancho\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jadon Sancho<\/a> is at the centre of it all.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2166205369-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jadon Sancho walks off after missing a penalty for Manchester United\" class=\"wp-image-213183\" \/>Photo by Marc Atkins\/Getty ImagesJadon Sancho refusal caused Emi Martinez deal to collapse<\/p>\n<p>Ineos have been working all summer to try and offload Sancho, but he has refused several moves away as he clings on to his salary at United.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/transfer-news\/i-am-told-man-utd-plans-for-jadon-sancho-contract-extension-in-2026-villa-loan-makes-him-free-agent\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Villa are paying 80% of Sancho\u2019s wages<\/a> during his loan spell in 2025\/26, but United would have much preferred a permanent deal.<\/p>\n<p>However, transfer expert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/fabrizio-romano\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fabrizio Romano<\/a> has revealed that Sancho said no to a permanent move, and that is why the Martinez deal became impossible for United on deadline day.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on GiveMeSport, Romano said: \u201cThe idea of Manchester United from what I\u2019m hearing was to do a permanent deal swap with Jadon Sancho and Emi Martinez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot to involve any money basically with a valuation of around \u00a325 million for both players. But, at the moment, from what I\u2019m hearing, this is impossible because Sancho is only going on loan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSancho is not accepting a permanent move, so a loan deal to Aston Villa and for Martinez there are other options to explore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jadon Sancho has been the bane of Man United\u2019s window<\/p>\n<p>The summer window started with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/news\/the-reason-jadon-sanchos-permanent-move-to-chelsea-has-fallen-through\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sancho\u2019s move to Chelsea collapsing<\/a>, meaning United were stuck with him once again.<\/p>\n<p>The window has also ended with more drama around the 25-year-old, after he rejected several offers from around Europe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/transfer-news\/roma-sporting-director-addresses-jadon-sancho-transfer-pursuit-amid-rejection-from-man-utd-flop\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roma were left frustrated at Sancho<\/a> after he snubbed their offer, and it seems he is determined to cling onto his wages at United for as long as possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/transfer-news\/sky-pundit-urges-man-united-to-complete-unbelievable-deadline-day-deal-for-star-who-is-best-in-the-world\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sky pundit wanted Man United to complete \u2018unbelievable\u2019 deadline day deal for star who is best in the world<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/transfer-news\/i-am-told-man-utd-plans-for-jadon-sancho-contract-extension-in-2026-villa-loan-makes-him-free-agent\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sancho\u2019s contract expires in 2026<\/a>, meaning he is set to become a free agent unless United choose to trigger his extension and look for a permanent sale.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, everyone involved at United will be glad to see the back of Sancho.
