{"id":36691,"date":"2025-09-01T15:04:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T15:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/36691\/"},"modified":"2025-09-01T15:04:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T15:04:07","slug":"chinas-exporters-ahead-in-tariff-game-paying-estimated-9-share-of-costs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/36691\/","title":{"rendered":"China\u2019s exporters ahead in tariff game, paying estimated 9% share of costs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Chinese exporters appear to hold significant bargaining power in their trade with the United States, according to an estimate from one of Beijing\u2019s top investment banks, carrying 9 per cent of the cost burden created by the tariffs US President Donald Trump levied earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The findings from <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/business\/article\/3300205\/cicc-merge-galaxy-securities-form-chinas-third-largest-brokerage-sources-say?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">China International Capital Corporation (CICC)<\/a> run contrary to earlier claims by US officials \u2013 including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent \u2013 that Washington has been on the winning side of the global tariff blitz rolled out in April.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cUS importers, sandwiched in the middle of supply chains, find it difficult to fully pass costs to the end market or shift the burden entirely to exporters, so they cope by compressing profit margins,\u201d CICC analysts Liu Gang and Yang Xuanting wrote in a note published on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The research from CICC \u2013 a partially state-owned institution \u2013 was carried out to address the hypothesis that exporters could reduce their prices to mitigate tariffs.
