temperatures will drop to close to freezing overnight<\/a> and it will be noticeably cooler over the coming days.<\/p>\nA Met Eireann spokesperson said: “Today will be mostly cloudy, though a few sunny breaks will develop. It will be dry apart from a little patchy drizzle. Towards evening, showers will develop near west and northwest coasts. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds.<\/p>\n
“Tonight will start off dry and mostly cloudy. Persistent rain in the west will spread eastwards to all areas overnight. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees, with moderate, occasionally fresh, southerly winds.”<\/p>\n
Thursday is set to begin with plenty of rain in many areas but bright spells will develop in the west, extending slowly eastwards with rain clearing from the east coast in the evening. There will be afternoon highs ranging between 5C and 8C with moderate southerly winds.<\/p>\n
Overnight, when remaining cloud and rain in the east clears, it will become dry and very cold in clear spells as lows of -2C are forecast. The national forecaster has also warned of frost and icy patches.<\/p>\n
Friday will see more sunshine in the afternoon in temperatures of between 9C and 12C but they will again drop in the night to lows of between -2C and 2C, with light frost developing. The west coast will enjoy milder conditions.<\/p>\n
The weekend will be much milder as temperatures are not likely to drop to freezing and into next week, the weather will become more unsettled with spells of rain or showers at times.<\/p>\n
