At first, it did not catch the attention of locals. But when it raised its head, pedestrians were startled — it was a massive python, about 10 feet long, moving along the wall.

The incident occurred near Vikasavani Junction on the Kakkanad–Pallikkara Road on Wednesday evening. The snake was seen crawling along the wall of a vacant plot in front of the 02 Zone Flats. A fire had broken out in the empty plot in front of the flats, and the python was trying to escape the heat of the flames by slithering along the wall to get out.

Local residents tried to bring the snake down. Some attempted to pull it down from the wall by grabbing its tail. But when the snake lifted its head and turned back as if to say, “Who’s holding my tail?”, many stepped back in fear.

Meanwhile, another elderly man stepped forward courageously. As the python tried to climb down from the wall into the vacant plot, he firmly grabbed its tail and pulled it down. With the help of other locals, he then managed to put the python into a sack.

Forest department officials arrived later that night and took the snake away. Residents said snake sightings have become frequent in nearby areas. They also complained that although the forest department had earlier been informed about a snake see in the attic of a nearby villa, officials had not come to catch it.

Published: 05 Mar 2026, 10:21 am IST

Subscribe to our NewsletterGet Latest Mathrubhumi Updates in EnglishFollow

Disclaimer: Kindly avoid objectionable, derogatory, unlawful and lewd comments, while responding to reports.
